Australian journalists could learn a lot from it too

It’s Margo Kingston, in the Guardian Australia on Pauline Hanson takes centre stage again but this time we should listen not lampoon cited by Glenn Reynolds on Instapundit under the non-ironic heading, AMERICAN JOURNALISTS COVERING THE TRUMP PHENOMENON COULD LEARN A LOT FROM THIS PIECE. This is his chosen quote:

“Her supporters were by and large nice people with little money who were largely uninterested in politics. They were suffering badly from the effects of competition policy, which had seen basic services and jobs stripped out of their towns. They loved Hanson’s grit and plain speaking. Most of all, they loved that she listened. . . . When I tried to converse with supporters about politics I misinterpreted everything they said, and likewise. I thought they were racists and they thought I was a racist. Communication was impossible without getting to know each other first. . . . Western democracies are splitting up into warring tribes. I think Hanson’s return to our parliament is a chance to bring ours together a little bit. If we try.”

And this from the comments at Instapundit:

:”…One Nation’s policy. Its vote collapsed..” Actually, that is wrong. What happened was the main parties, LIB, Labour, DEMs , Greens, NATs all “preference’d” her at the bottom, as that is what you used to be able to do Down Under. The final vote is your actual vote plus preferences from others…..The smart Rich Guy who did a hostile takeover of the LIB/NAT Coalition party decided that he would change the system to get rid of the “kooks” from the Senate. He did that with the support of the Greens (never a good sign). What he did not understand was that the parties like One Nation get pretty solid *primary* voter support. Once people could pick their own preferences, the independents like Hanson and others leaped above the Family First and Palmer party types… They are now here to stay, for at least the next 3-6 years…

More than likely, the smart rich guy is going to need the support of Bob Katter (Google his videos!) and Hanson to get anything done…Good Times!

Whatever kind of times they are, they are certainly a changing.

Hillary no charges, unsurprisingly

VIDEO UPDATE: The video has been added as an update. Quite, quite extraordinary, specially since Comey makes it clear that anyone else doing the same would be prosecuted.

Almost no one I know that I talk to about it has any idea what the issues are. So why should you be surprised that no prosecution will follow. Here is the story at The Daily Mail, since you won’t find it covered in much detail in the American media: Clinton cleared on email scandal by FBI – despite sending and receiving top-secret information on a server which was ‘possibly’ hacked by America’s enemies. The word “possibly” in quotes means its not theirs but the Department of “Justice”.

The reality is that every email sent and received by Hillary was illegally kept on a private server which also meant, firstly, that every email she sent and received was monitored by every foreign agency across the world and secondly, that much of what she wrote is unavailable for others within the American political system to review, should they actually wish to. Naturally Donald Trump has criticised. I imagine most others will say hardly a word. Whatever else, the story has already blown over even before it became a story.

Meanwhile, on Instapundit, The IRS Scandal, Day 1153. The US political system is corrupt to its very core, but the complicity between the Democrats and the media will ensure no issue is ever allowed to blow up about anything that harms its party of choice. Again from Instapundit, the media are Democrat Operatives with Bylines.

BTW the story at Instapundit is titled, The fix was in all along which is, of course, true but hardly pictures the gravity of the story. From the comments:

1) The most mendacious paragraph of the whole statement: “In looking back at our investigations into mishandling or removal of classified information, we cannot find a case that would support bringing criminal charges on these facts. All the cases prosecuted involved some combination of: clearly intentional and willful mishandling of classified information; or vast quantities of materials exposed in such a way as to support an inference of intentional misconduct; or indications of disloyalty to the United States; or efforts to obstruct justice. We do not see those things here.”

She set up the server explicitly in a premeditated attempt to obstruct justice, in order to at a minimum, deny Freedom of Information requests. I would say this outcome is unbelievable, but I have realized since November 2012 there is no organization of government not utterly corrupted by this President and his cabal. USA RIP

2) This goes beyond, far beyond, Prosecutorial Discretion……We’re deep into “Parador” country here.
We no longer have a Criminal Justice System, buy a System of Justice of Criminals!

3) The worst national security breach in the history of the US doesn’t warrant anything more than a shoulder shrug from the DOJ.

Disgusting. If she were a Republican they’d be literally calling for her head on a pike.

Not much heat in the response, only resignation about that is how things are.

AND LET ME JUST ADD THIS: This is taken from Lucianne where it was picked up from Gateway Pundit so it is from the more respectable side of the conservative blog world. The article is titled, Coincidence? UN Official “Accidentally” Crushes Throat and Dies Before Testifying Against Hillary Clinton. Well, in fact, the story goes back to Zero Hedge where the article begins:

Call it conspiracy theory, coincidence or just bad luck, but any time someone is in a position to bring down Hillary Clinton by testifying they wind up dead. In fact, there’s a long history of Clinton-related body counts, with scores of people dying under mysterious circumstances.

I do not think any of it is true, but I do find it interesting that it is being said and repeated outside the National Enquirer.

FURTHER VIDEO UPDATE: This is Donald Trump in his own more direct version of the contrast between what Comey said and what Hillary said. Trump’s video, which can be seen at this link, has already had more than five million hits. Below is the same taken from Youtube.

Election advice from The Age and SMH

If you don’t think the fix is in, you should read the editorial today in The Age. It begins:

Voting requires a leap of faith, a trust in candidates and parties to deliver on policies and potential. And when Australians go to the ballot boxes on Saturday, there is an added layer of faith required in voting for the Coalition – that Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will stamp his authority as a progressive leader on a party whose hardline conservatives have somewhat shackled him since he replaced their champion, Tony Abbott.

But, on balance, that is the leap The Age believes voters should make. Although there is disappointment about Mr Turnbull’s performance, and notwithstanding the unexpectedly robust recovery Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has staged, there is not a sufficient case to take the rare and disruptive step of removing a federal government after only one term.

And just in case you missed it in The Age, here is the concluding para in the Sydney Morning Herald.

Given the choice between a Coalition led by the socially progressive economic reformer Mr Turnbull, and a Shorten-led Labor party backed by reform-resistant unions, we support the election of a Turnbull government.

What else is there to to know? Vote accordingly.

FURTHER THOUGHTS: A stray comment picked up by Tim Blair.

Another senior Right MP said there were “swings to Labor everywhere’’ and claimed “Albo’s people are doing their best to reduce the number of seats Bill can win”.

There are some who normally vote Liberal who are trying to lose to Labor while there are those who are normally Labor trying to lose to the Libs. Daniel Andrews taking on the Volunteer Firefighters in Victoria makes no sense if you are trying to preserve votes for the ALP but makes incredible sense if your aim is to have Albanese-Plibersek ready for 2019. And weirdly, with all the help the Libs are getting from Labor, Malcolm is still only 50.5 to 49.5 according to The Oz today. Even with all the left media and the left of the ALP doing all they can, Malcolm is still only just marginally ahead of 50-50.

Bolt on Sky

I never watch television with the only exception I used to make was the Bolt Report on Sunday mornings. But then Bolt switched to Sky on weekdays @ 7:00 pm which meant I would get home too late, and I don’t anyway like to find myself shifting my timetable to fit into what’s on when. And although I can video, other than an occasional ball game of some sort, the main reason I have videoed things in the past is so that I could happily miss them and not worry about it when the program was finally deleted unwatched a month later.

But here it is. I now do watch Bolt most days. I find I get home that half hour sooner so that I can watch the program in real time. So let me note this from Bolt:

The audience for this difficult 7pm to 8pm time slot on pay TV (note: not taxpayer-subsidised free-to-air) was once very tiny. When I took over less than two months ago, it rose to the 20,000 Barry claims.

But since then we’ve grown, with your very welcome support. On at least two days last week, we topped 50,000 viewers. The word is getting out and, clearly, some people appreciate the alternative enough to pay to watch it. If Barry cares to test his own pulling power, I am sure Sky News will offer him a slot, too.

Well, part of that rise is the two of us, and we usually make it through to the end. If you can watch, that is, if you have cable, you should when you can. It’s the only current affairs on TV worth the effort, not that I watch any other so perhaps I am being unfair, though I doubt it.

“It’s been a long time since the media in this country told the truth about anything”

From Stacy McCain: [Redacted] Is a Religion of Peace.

The Obama administration and the liberal media have decided that when a radical Islamic terrorist kills Americans, the one thing the narrative cannot be about is radical Islamic terrorism. It’s OK to talk about the Orlando massacre in terms of homophobia, gun control or “toxic masculinity,” but don’t you dare mention Islam. Don’t mention that Omar Mateen was a registered Democrat, or that he’s the son of an immigrant from Afghanistan or that his father supports the Taliban.

This obvious pro-Muslim bias has become increasingly blatant:

Justice Department Replaces ‘Allah’ With ‘God’ in Censored Orlando Terrorist Transcript
— Katie Pavlich, Townhall

FBI Omitted ISIS From Orlando 911 Transcript
— Mary Chastain, Legal Insurrection

FBI releases 911 transcripts of Omar Mateen — with references to ISIS omitted
— Allahpundit, Hot Air

The media would have you believe that this sensitivity is necessary because, if radical Islamic terrorism were identified as the cause of a gruesome mass murder, Americans would be seized by irrational “Islamophobia” and commit hate crimes against random brown people. In fact, the reason that the administration and the media are so intent on downplaying the role of Islam is because they are afraid that if they told the truth, people might vote Republican in November.

Therefore, the media won’t tell the truth. Then again, it’s been a long time since the media in this country told the truth about anything.

Fox Camel News Network

This was from Carol in the comments on Facing reality.

In the reaction to this tragedy on some American blogs, I saw more than one comment, in relation to spin about this story on the Fox news channel, that some wealthy Saudi Arabian mogul had recently bought a large share in News Corp. Could this possibly be true? I didn’t see exactly when beyond recent, but, if true, it would be interesting to know, because it might have a bearing on The Australian coming across as more leftish of late?

Remember about the last capitalist selling the rope that will be used to hang him. Read on. This is what I have since found out. Just read through this story, Saudis Influencing Fox News and then this one, Fox News Channel unbalanced by Saudi influence, both by Diana West, because it is certain to be the only time you will see this mentioned ever again.

And then make your plans accordingly.

Kansas City Star Editorial Writer Yael T. Abouhalkah: “Dear God: Today I am so sickened by the evilness of the NRA and gun industry. May their leaders be plunged into ever-lasting hell. Amen.”

The rest of the links above can be opened at Instapundit if you really need to read them. Plus there’s this: Trump takes credit for ‘being right on radical Islamic terrorism’. They make it sound like he’s at fault:

Donald Trump wasted little time seeking political advantage in the massacre at a Florida nightclub, taking credit for “being right on radical Islamic terrorism” in the wake of the worst mass shooting in American history.

The suspect in the attack, identified by authorities as a U.S. citizen of Afghan descent named Omar Saddiqui Mateen, killed 50 people and injured another 53 during a rampage through a gay dance club in Orlando. He died in a gunfight with SWAT officers after initially firing shots into the club and later taking hostages.

“Appreciate the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism, I don’t want congrats, I want toughness & vigilance. We must be smart!” the presumptive Republican presidential nominee tweeted.

Trump followed up that tweet with a statement expressing “My deepest sympathy and support goes out to the victims, the wounded, and their families.”

But he also attacked President Barack Obama, whom he said “disgracefully refused to even say the words ‘Radical Islam'” during his comments on Sunday afternoon. “For that reason alone, he should step down.

Australia’s bravest man is a cartoonist

leak hurt feelings

This is an article about Bill Leak, the cartoonist from The Australian: New conservatism of Western progressives is killing humour. Not only is he brave, but his common sense and the values displayed from a disappearing civilisation are remarkable. A sample, but it is worth reading the lot. Unexampled.

The trick has always been to look at a serious issue, exaggerate it to the point of absurdity and draw what you see when you get there. But the trick doesn’t work in these strange times when the more ridiculous an issue is, the more seriously it’s taken. And if you’re starting at the point of absurdity, where do you go from there? What’s the point in pointing out the absurdity inherent in something that’s obviously absurd and, more important, why isn’t everyone already laughing?

And when you do read it and see what an anodyne example I have plucked from the article, you will see that I am nowhere near Australia’s bravest. You will also see the evidence for why he is.
