The Soviet Union sort of petered out and Gorbachev allowed it to happen in a sort of passive way – not that he knew what else to do. I’m with the hardliner in the ad, at least until he relents. The Chinese Comms are nothing like it. And there is no Ronald Reagan anywhere – maybe Trump.
Alas the fall of the Soviet Union has meant we have forgotten what we are up against. We’ll see what happens with Taiwan.
In the climax of Orwell’s magnum opus, the reader is introduced to Room 101 in the Ministry of Love. It is the subterranean torture chamber where agents of the Party inflict gruesome and macabre punishment upon recalcitrant citizens like Winston. And now it appears that Canada is making moves to emulate the totalitarian regime of Oceania and its Party. In a report released by The Counter Signal, Justin Trudeau and his political allies are paving the way for a militarized climate force. Leaked architectural blueprints of a massive new facility lay bare a dystopian future.
And how can productivity go up if we don’t leave it to the private sector?
Cannot happen. And as long as “growth” is based on the public sector neither value added per employee (ie productivity) or real wages can go up – on average that is – then earnings will collapse although those who get paid by governments will do all right relatively.
It’s going to be bad for a long long time, longer than you can imagine. Average earnings will simply have to stagnate.
