Europeans have a culture of their own and you are fortunate indeed if you are part of that culture

Picked up myself randomly: You’ve Got to be Carefully Taught, that is, mis-taught. Here are the two paras out of four that make the point:

The ebb and flow of the internet brought to me the woebegone maunderings of a (presumably) white and (arguably) somewhat credentialed Millennial, who in her search for meaning and purpose in her life wound up involved in those anti-pipeline protests near the Sioux reservation. The ukase of her lament seemed to be that she had no native culture, not in comparison with those charming and dignified tribal elders. She appeared to view them as benign, terribly exotic, definitely ‘other’ – pretty much the same lens with which the old National Geographic viewed and photographed those interesting aboriginal peoples in far distant foreign lands all these decades ago.

And it was terribly sad to read, because the poor child does in fact, have a culture of her own – just that she has been deprived of it; deprived by intent or by cultivated sloth on the part of those who should have taught it to her; the unimaginably rich canon knowledge of western culture – our history, art, literature, music, technology, folkways. Homer and Cervantes, Shakespeare, da Vinci, Bach, Beethoven, Wagner and Rossini, Dickens and Twain, Michelangelo and Machiavelli, Brunel and Bruneschelli, the Brothers Grimm, the Brothers Wright, Don Juan of Austria and Ulysses S. Grant, the Duke of Wellington and whoever it was invented the toilet flush valve and the first working sewing machine. Likely all this and more were never taught to her, or what is worse – badly taught and as examples of western racism or whatever. To live without a sense of history is to be adrift in a kind of cultural sensory-deprivation tank, as exhibited by that child.

If you have never read a play by Shakespeare or heard a Mozart opera and yet you live in a Western country, you are as culturally deprived as it is possible to be.

The future of multiculturalism around the world

The first Muslim MP in the NSW parliament has sparked a row overnight, refusing entry to a respected Jewish leader to a Labor Party multicultural launch.

Upper House MP Shaoquett Moselmane refused entry to Jewish Board of Deputies CEO Vic Alhadeff at the launch of the Labor Union Multicultural Action Committee launch last night saying, according to Mr Alhadeff, that he was not a Labor Party member.

Then this from the United States: Palestinian Congressional Candidate ASSAULTS Jewish Journalist at Political Event.

A journalist was assaulted by a soon-to-be congresswoman while asking her questions at a political rally for U.S. Congressional candidate Ilhan Omar in Minnesota on Saturday.

Rashida Tlaib, a Palestinian Muslim who won her primary in Michigan’s 13th Congressional District on Tuesday, forcefully grabbed Jewish journalist Laura Loomer and stole her phone when Loomer approached her to ask questions at the rally.

And then from the UK: British Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn Admits, After Months of Lies, That He Was In Fact “Present” At Ceremony Honoring the Terrorists Who Slaughtered Israeli Athletes at the 1972 Olympics.

It’s a complicated world

Things were simpler back in the day. Here are two stories with an interesting overlap. First: Inside the Left-Wing Harassment Campaign Against Ruby Rose’s Lesbian Batwoman. Bottom line:

According to Deadline, Batwoman was revived in 2006 as a Jewish lesbian—the first lesbian title character in the DC universe. Back in May, it was announced that Batwoman would appear in the upcoming CW Arrowverse crossover event. Then came the news that Kate Kane would likely follow up that appearance with her own TV show, from Vampire Diaries executive producer Caroline Dries and Arrowverse visionary Greg Berlanti.

Last week, Ruby Rose celebrated her casting in an Instagram post, writing, “This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different.”

But just two days after the announcement, Rose quit Twitter in a series of tweets that appeared to call out critiques from the queer community, including misguided allegations that the gender fluid actor “is not a lesbian.” In the now-deleted message, Rose wrote, “Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be batwoman’ come from — has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with ‘she’s too gay’ how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change. I wish we would all support each other and our journeys.”

And then there’s this: What Happens to #MeToo When a Feminist Is the Accused? Here’s the key moment in the story:

Mr. Reitman, who is now 34 and is a visiting fellow at Harvard, says that Professor Ronell [who is 60] kissed and touched him repeatedly, slept in his bed with him, required him to lie in her bed, held his hand, texted, emailed and called him constantly, and refused to work with him if he did not reciprocate. Mr. Reitman is gay and is now married to a man; Professor Ronell is a lesbian.

More, much more, at the link, but this is all for now from me.

“No borders, no wall, no USA at all”

That’s Antifa, the American left in all its insanity, just today. Is that really what they want, because whether or not that is what they really want, that is what they are heading towards? This, however, seems more to the point, which when all is said and done amounts to pretty much the same thing:

How do these people get half the votes?

The intellectual dark web

Meet the Renegades of the Intellectual Dark Web. It begins, but from a source within the enemy camp:

Here are some things that you will hear when you sit down to dinner with the vanguard of the Intellectual Dark Web: There are fundamental biological differences between men and women. Free speech is under siege. Identity politics is a toxic ideology that is tearing American society apart. And we’re in a dangerous place if these ideas are considered “dark.”

Then do go on to read it all followed by this: Why the Left Is So Afraid of Jordan Peterson, also from within the enemy camp.

It’s not just their lies, but what they ignore

All picked up today.

Terrorist Truth Is Scarier Than Fiction, But The News Media Yawns

You didn’t want to know anyway, but if you did want to know you are an obvious sociopathic racist oppressor so they are absolutely right not to let you find out.

AND THIS JUST IN: Newspaper calls for war of words against Trump media attacks. On the left, even idiots get to call the plays.

A Boston newspaper is proposing a coordinated editorial response from publications across the U.S. to President Donald Trump’s frequent attacks on the news media.

“We are not the enemy of the people,” said Marjorie Pritchard, deputy managing editor for the editorial page of The Boston Globe, referring to a characterization of journalists that Trump has used in the past. The president, who contends he has largely been covered unfairly by the press, also employs the term “fake news” often when describing the media.

The Globe has reached out to editorial boards nationwide to write and publish editorials on Aug. 16 denouncing what the newspaper called a “dirty war against the free press.”

And from my dealings with the people who read these papers and watch the ABC, it is clear that they are desperate not to be informed and literally do not want to know. It’s a sickness, and may yet be a sickness unto death for our way of life.

A reading list of original and influential liberal thinkers

This just arrived in my inbox and may be of interest. The question asked is who among the great liberal philosophers should be included in a course on Western Civilisation.

Dear colleagues and friends,

For the 175th anniversary editor of The Economist is launching Open Future, an initiative to discuss liberal values and policies in the 21st century.

I have just crossed this online article about a series on influential liberal thinkers and some critics. It explicitly asks readers to diversify its preliminary list by submitting further suggestions:

This may interest some of you.

`
“Liberal”, as the article notes, is now a much contested term. This is what The Economist writes:

The definition of liberalism has long been the source of disagreement. The very term has come to mean “progressive” in the United States, whereas in Britain it has kept its older meaning of being respectful of individual freedom and the wisdom that can be drawn from free thought and open debate.

Once liberalism was invaded by the Fabians, I’m not sure all that much of its original meaning remains, but with Jordan Peterson and others like him prowling about, who knows what the future might bring.
