It’s not how many votes you get that counts but who gets to count the votes

Even blacks in Chicago are coming out against Obama and the Democrats. It could be a wave election, except for this:

Early voting just started last week in Maryland, but there are already accusations that some voting machines are changing Republican votes to Democrat.

There is a case to be made that Democrats – indeed any old standard issue politician of the left – are interested in not much else other than power for themselves and are not particularly fastidious about how they get it.

The Christie-Obama alliance

That under no circumstances would I ever support Chris Christie for President was resolved for me the moment he actively subverted Mitt Romney’s own presidential run in the last week of the 2012 campaign. If Romney won, Christie could not run in 2016. Therefore he did everything he could to ensure a Romney loss, with the effort made to make Obama look like a man of action in the midst of “Superstorm Sandy” the crowning moment. Were it not for the storm, Romney would have won. Were it not for Christie, Romney might still have won. But irrespective of whether or not it made a difference, that Christie did what he did has made him poison for me, aside from the fact that he is a leftist clown.

So now he is at it again, trying to knock off Scott Walker in Wisconsin. Think of this:

The RGA, chaired by Gov. Christie (R-N.J.), has been under pressure in recent days to do more to help Walker, a tea party favorite who rocketed to political stardom after he curbed bargaining rights for most public workers in his state. The Weekly Standard reported Thursday that there were brewing suspicions on the right that Christie, as RGA chairman, has been “undercutting” Walker, his potential rival for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.

Just showing form, merely form, expect nothing else, this is how he is. That no one ties it to Romney makes me think Christie is the one the established Republican Party wants. But here Obama seems to be on exactly the same side as they both seem to have the same agenda. OBAMA GOES TO WISCONSIN IN BID TO OUST GOV. WALKER.

President Barack Obama is making a rare appearance on the campaign trail just one week before Election Day in an effort to help a Democratic challenger oust Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker from office.

I would think that Obama is poison but he will do what he can. Also disgusting but normal politics. You would just think that just maybe the Republicans would understand that Walker is a potentially more formidable opponent than Christie given the efforts they are making to push him out. Politics in the US is just too hard for us outsiders since it is impossible to follow the money or whatever else it is that counts.

Obstruction, intimidation and harassment

You should dwell on this para from John Hinderaker at Powerline for a very long time and then read the article to truly appreciate the kind of world we are in. He puts the word “if” at the front, but if you read the article, there is no if about it. This is the sentence:

The Obama administration hacked into a reporter’s computers, used them to spy on her, and even prepared to frame her for a potential criminal prosecution by planting classified documents.

“If this were a Republican administration,” he further notes, “every reporter in Washington would be on the story, as would various law enforcement agencies.” There would literally be no end to it, a Nixon plus McCarthy moment never to be forgotten. Indeed, this is such a moment, and one that ought to be but won’t.

As for who we discussing, we are, of course, talking about Sharyl Attkisson since there is literally no other reporter from the mainstream American media to compare and about whom the American government was so enraged. But after the IRS, there is virtually nothing a Democrat President can do that will get him into serious trouble with the media, and therefore with the electorate at large. For journalists, however, things are entirely different. The risks of stepping out of line are enormous. Only someone with the highest of profiles would be even relatively immune and she got the sack, so in reality, no one is immune. There’s a lot of years of not being on CBS ahead of her, an outcome virtually no one else with the same kind of profile would be willing to endure.

I will have to read her book, Stonewalled: My Fight for Truth Against the Forces of Obstruction, Intimidation, and Harassment in Obama’s Washington although I suspect it will do no more than confirm all of the beliefs about the American media and government I already have. But if you haven’t understood the nature of the American Republic in the second decade of the twenty-first century, this may give us a glimpse.

Don’t worry, I won’t let anybody tell me

It’s not even that she is so stupefyingly ignorant that is so remarkable but that it is apparently a winner for her to say it. This is the story of the video above and the title of the post it comes from exactly restates what the next Democrat to run for president intends to argue: ‘DON’T LET ANYBODY TELL YOU’ THAT ‘BUSINESSES CREATE JOBS’.

There may be some way for an interpretation of the most destructive piece of arithmetic in history – Y=C+I+G – to enter more vacuous territory, but it’s hard to see how. For her, her husband apparently and all too many on her side of the fence, it is government spending, not productive businesses, that causes economies to grow and individuals to be employed. (To understand the reference to arithmetic, you need to go to the video.)

You think the American economy will recover? With people as out of it as she is at the helm, the US economy will never recover, not ever. And if we give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she actually knows better but her supporters do not, what comfort is there in that? Personally though, I think she is saying what she believes. What then for living standards a decade from now?

Vote early, vote often

obama reister for the votre

With the first Tuesday following the first Monday in an even numbered year only a week or so away, I thought I would draw attention to the impending elections in the US. No matter what happens, Obama will still be president, and no matter what the election outcome is, he will continue to do his best to ruin the United States. As part of his program, we have the following, which should mean it would not make much sense to put your hopes on an election landslide to fix things up.

Putting non-citizens on the voters list is just one of the many ways the Democrats in the United States subvert their own democracy. Since they absolutely without question know that their own views on absolutely everything are the only views with any merit whatsoever, it is essential to ensure that no other views are ever allowed to affect policy. And of course, it’s also nice to have political power and the fantastic wealth it attracts to people who for the most part are otherwise without seriously marketable talents.

I actually cared about the outcome of the American presidential election in 2012 since I thought of it as the crucial political moment of our time. Obama won – in no small part because of fraud – and I now see the US as a train wreck. All of this fraud is to be expected. Here is the text that goes with the picture:

Obama program puts noncitizens on voter rolls « Watchdog.org:

“With early voting starting Thursday, North Carolina’s election board found 154 ineligible voters on its poll lists — and officials are examining thousands more questionable registrations.

The illegal immigrants landed on the state’s voter rolls, courtesy of the Obama administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

The State Board of Elections said late Tuesday that more than 9,000 additional voters’ names are being checked for legal status.

They do not expect to finish checking before early voting starts Thursday.

“We don’t know what we don’t know,” special counsel Brian LiVecchi told Watchdog.org.

Nearly 10,000 names on the rolls are tagged by the state Department of Motor Vehicles as “legally present,” but the Winston-Salem Journal reported that doesn’t mean all 10,000 are ineligible to vote.

When immigrants are certified under DACA deportation proceedings are frozen.”

Obama may still want to be a citizen of the world and take the US along with him, but he will still live in a gated community for the rest of his life to keep the riff raff out.

Interestingly, this has come from Captain Capitalism with these words:

This, more than any other reason, is why I have given up caring about the future of the US. . . . When you let people who aren’t citizen vote, you do not have a country. You have a resource for the world’s parasites to plunder.

I can see he and I are on the same page on this one.

UPDATE: He may not have invented it, and may not even have intended it, but I am going to give John Constantine credit for the perfect phrase to explain why Labor encourages the arrival of boat people. As he wrote in the comments:

Nothing to see here.

It is vital that vote people enclaves must be inserted into the last remaining pockets of ‘old australia’ to achieve sustainable diversity of socialist voting patterns.

Some henry ford of socialism has figured out how to mass produce socialist votes, and the blueprints have been passed around every power crazed control freak in post-western civilisation.

Boat people are vote people for the left, just as they are in the US. If they voted reliably Republican or for the Libs, you can be sure our borders would be more secure than the Berlin Wall.

FURTHER UPDATE: Look, even the Washington Post is getting into the act. Could non-citizens decide the November election? it asks. And here is part of the answer it gives:

Because non-citizens tended to favor Democrats (Obama won more than 80 percent of the votes of non-citizens in the 2008 CCES sample), we find that this participation was large enough to plausibly account for Democratic victories in a few close elections. Non-citizen votes could have given Senate Democrats the pivotal 60th vote needed to overcome filibusters in order to pass health-care reform and other Obama administration priorities in the 111th Congress. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) won election in 2008 with a victory margin of 312 votes. Votes cast by just 0.65 percent of Minnesota non-citizens could account for this margin. It is also possible that non-citizen votes were responsible for Obama’s 2008 victory in North Carolina. Obama won the state by 14,177 votes, so a turnout by 5.1 percent of North Carolina’s adult non-citizens would have provided this victory margin.

How surprised are you by any of that, I wonder.

What fools we are

If you read M. Stanton Evan’s historical investigation into Joe McCarthy, Blacklisted by History, you will come away recognising how one of the bravest men in our history was taken down by the left and his name turned into the very essence of political wickedness. Which is worse in our day and age: McCarthyist tactics or Stalinist tactics? At best they might come out equal to anyone – left or right – who thinks about politics today, but of the two – again whether left of right – there would be a fair proportion who would think McCarthy did more damage. And what are the lessons that McCarthy has for us today? It is to keep one’s head down and under no circumstances try to take on the left because they will use every technique under the sun to do you in.

I have no answer to the question why McCarthy remains the villain he is portrayed as having been by the right. That the left villifies him is par for the course. They will never stop since it is a supposed weak point for the conservative side of politics so long as McCarthyism remains the epitome of political evil. But on the right there ought to be, you would think, some effort made to resurrect his memory, especially since virtually everything he said proved not only to be true, but largely understated. I wrote about the latest episode of the right using McCarthy once again as the arch villain here. Now, Diana West, who has also found herself on the outside looking in for writing the most extraordinary book on communist infiltration of the Roosevelt White House, American Betrayal, has taken up this theme by looking at the post I wrote.

She has written The Problem Isn’t “McCarthyism,” It’s McCarthymania. When I looked at the original article in the Weekly Standard attacking McCarthy for having used his influence to have one of his assistants receive a commission (which he didn’t get, by the way) as a parallel instance of Joe Biden’s son being thrown out of the army for cocaine use having received his own commission in the first place because his father is Vice President, I could say no more than this is not an issue that should be used as a form of self-flagellation on the right. Why allow this minor scandal to be shared in such a stupid way, to write as if we are just as bad as them, and to use McCarthy as the vehicle? But the fact is, I didn’t know any of the details of this particular instance, but Diana West does. And when you read these details, the supposed equivalence is more obtuse than you could possibly imagine. Here is what I found to be the crucial point:

Ironically, at one point in the proceedings, as Evans relates in his definitive McCarthy study, Blacklisted by History, famed Army lawyer Welch, thinking to discredit Cohn, moved to introduce into the record one of the many Army-transcribed conversations on the matter, in this case between Army Secretary Stevens and Sen. McCarthy. It was a conversation “in which McCarthy downplayed the importance of Schine [as an investigator on his staff], said he didn’t want any favors for him, and said Cohn was `completely unreasonable’ on the topic.”

There is no parallel. McCarthy once again comes across as a man of exemplary character. Others may then wish to toss this around, and do the left’s work for them by contesting West and Stanton Evans, but to what end? If they are the enemy what is Obama? My greater question is, where is our McCarthy today, someone who can take the fight up to the left who are ruining our civilisation in so many ways that it is almost impossible to see how this can ever be turned round. The institutions have been marched through to such an extent that even when you find someone like Diana West who writes a book that exposes the perfidy of the left, it is our side that does the trouncing while the left merely stands by and laughs at what fools we are.

An instructive parallel

There is, for some reason, a desire on the right to continuously play into the hands of the left on Joe McCarthy. Joe Biden’s son was brought into the army at age 43 and then, within a month, has been booted out because he has tested positive for cocaine. Obviously a minor scandal for this administration and representative of the moral laxity of the left. Not so fast. This is from The Weekly Standard and comes with the title, Biden Cocaine Scandal Mirrors Joe McCarthy Scandal just so you cannot miss the core point that the story is absolutely not about Biden but McCarthy. The final paras bring up this supposed parallel from the 1950s.

A more instructive parallel, however, might be to Sen. Joseph McCarthy, of all people. When one of McCarthy’s Senate aides, G. David Schine, was drafted into the Army and sent to basic training at Ft. Monmouth, N.J., Roy Cohn, another McCarthy aide and reputedly Schine’s lover, intervened persistently to obtain an officer’s commission for Schine. When the Army protested about repeated threats and interference from the senator’s office, McCarthy charged that the Army was attempting to retaliate against his investigations into communist subversion in the armed forces. The televised hearings that were held during April-June 1954 to investigate the matter — the famous Army-McCarthy hearings — not only revealed that McCarthy and his staff had repeatedly wielded their influence on behalf of Schine, but had done so despite Schine’s complete lack of qualifications for an officer’s commission.

The differences between Joseph McCarthy and Joseph Biden are self-evident, of course. But just as the effort to make G. David Schine an Army officer taught the country something about Senator McCarthy, so the brief, inglorious naval career of Hunter Biden tells us something about Vice President Biden — and the culture of entitlement in political Washington that has tarnished the Navy.

And why did I find it? Because it is one of the picks on Powerline who must themselves think this is one of the major issues of our time to give it such prominence. They don’t get it, do they? The lessons McCarthy should have taught us is how easy it is for our enemies to penetrate to the highest ranks of an Administration, which you can read about in Diana West’s American Betrayal. Harry Hopkins (who?) ought to be a lesson we can learn from but apparently the only lesson is that McCarthy may or may not have used influence to get one of his assistants an officer’s commission.

If we are looking for instructive parallels today, what McCarthy did sixty years ago would be the last last place you should look but with some people it’s never a bad time to kick a good man when he’s down.

The Obola virus

obama ebola response team

The notion of an Obola virus just popped into my head as I was walking home just now but I thought that before I tried to claim originality I would just google it to see if anyone else had thought of it. Well, not only is it across the net and all over the place, it has apparently already been branded as racist. Well, that’s the end of that. I therefore think I should let the people at Quadrant know since they have already posted an article, President Obola’s Panic Attack. It’s by a former citizen of the Soviet Union, so what else can you expect. But at least he is aware of his own peculiarities and is already prepared to self-ostracise himself and so he should. As he writes:

I have given up on myself. Since everyone I know accepts that my views are to the right of Gengis Khan, I no longer have to make the pretense of drinking soy milk or eating tofu and pretending to enjoy it. I am what I am and happy to be that way, even if my children’s faces go red when I open my mouth in polite company. They look pleadingly at others present, trying telepathically, I think, to transmit the thought that every family has its own dotty uncle who, in their case, happens to be their own, beloved and sometimes moderately useful, but very barmy, two-cans-short-of-a six-pack dad.

I know that look of theirs very well indeed. It says, ‘What do you expect? Dad remembers those weird days when steam engines were used to pull trains, people were paid only for working, kids ran around playgrounds largely unsupervised, and men could grow older, and little more portly, without attracting universal ostracism.

Well, being portly and dotty has its compensations, let me tell you. Nobody is surprised when you ask stupid questions or say things that are sooo politically incorrect they would be beyond the pale for everyone except yours truly. This is fun – looking at the same pictures on the TV screen as everyone else and seeing things differently.

He thinks of the panic as just one more way to get other scandals off the front page, but oddly, if this is actually a non-scandal in reality, it is the one that may finally bite. People win Nobel Prizes in economics for pointing out that remote possibilities are seen as far more probable than they really are while the more likely dangers are ignored as just part of life.

But since Obola/Ebama did nothing in the face of this danger of unknown consequence, and he would be the absolute last person to know one way or the other, his uselessness as a chief executive is being recognised by people who prefer not to die a horrible death even if he gives them free phones. So at least there is this, whatever else may happen next.

UPDATE: A similar kind of outrage from Andy McCarthy, Incompetence Meets Mendacity in Obama Administration’s Ebola Response. From the article:

You can only abide politics as soap opera for so long because politics is actually about real life and real stakes. Reality cannot be scripted. Therefore, politics cannot forever be stage-managed as a “narrative” with “optics,” a daily show focused on how the lead character is affected by the latest crisis.

At a certain point, the reality of the crises hits us, and hits close to home. Am I threatened? Am I going to get sick? If I do get sick, am I going to have health coverage and the doctor I trust? Is the government doing its best to make sure I am not infected? Or shot? Or bombed? Or beheaded?

Where do we get the answers to these questions? From the government we’ve grown to depend on. And now the answers are so purposely, patently, and pervasively false, it suddenly seems as if nothing can be trusted — as if, even as our perils intensify, our government erects another house in its Potemkin village.

And then he lists the lies that are more than lies but a form of deceit that in each instance makes people worse off for no compensating advantage other than to those who are lying:

Of course you can keep your health coverage, and your doctor. And we’ll cover everyone while your premiums plummet. Meanwhile, al-Qaeda is “decimated” and these Islamic State guys are just the jayvee team. In fact (fact?), they’re not even Islamic — although they may not be quite as “secular” as the Muslim Brotherhood. Just extremists. (Extreme about what? Don’t ask.) Jihad is just a “purification of the self” . . . or, at most, “workplace violence.” Benghazi? A spontaneous “protest” incited by a video. The president was not told it was a terrorist attack . . . except by the secretary of defense right after it started — long before he responded by . . . going to Vegas, where he promptly announced al-Qaeda was “on the path to defeat.” Still, rest assured that the State Department’s top priority is the safety of American personnel . . . although we did reduce security in Benghazi after our facility was bombed. And rest assured that the Justice Department would never ever let guns walk . . . except for the thousands its Fast and Furious program transferred to violent gangs — who’ve used them in who knows how many crimes, including the murder of a Border Patrol agent. Still, at least there’s “not a smidgen of corruption” at the IRS, where citizens are harassed, evidence keeps disappearing, and the official at the center of it all takes the Fifth to avoid giving incriminating testimony. No matter. Just take heart that Ebola is not coming to the United States . . . um, well, if it does come there will be no outbreak . . . but, er, if there is an outbreak, we have careful protocols and health-care professionals fully trained to deal with it . . . and even if the protocols don’t work and the professionals don’t have adequate training, we’ll have a rigorous monitoring program for anyone who is exposed . . . or maybe a self-monitoring program for people who will isolate themselves . . . unless, of course, we tell them to go ahead and hop on a plane. Well, look, at least we can promise there won’t be a “serious” outbreak.

It’s Obama, of course, but it’s also the American media. No one can trust either as the world goes from one disaster to the next.

The way of the future?

This is from Sultan Knish. Is he wrong about the future, our future? There is only one way to find out and that is by acting as if he is obviously wrong and thus do nothing at all. Or we could do something and never know for sure what would have happened if we had done nothing. Anyway, it looks like we will do nothing much at all, so we are going to find out sooner or later whether he was right. And this is what he might yet prove to be right about.

The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia ruled that ten year old girls can be married off, because in his words, “Good upbringing makes a girl ready to perform all marital duties at that age.”

The Mufti, who also called for destroying churches in the Arabian Peninsula, is descended from Mohammed Wahhab who gave birth to Wahhabism and whose descendants have controlled the Saudi religious establishment, and through it Islam around the world.

However for all his power and influence, the Mufti is blind and hasn’t seen a thing in the last half century years; an apt metaphor for his entire religion.

Saudi Arabia, the heartland of Islam, still tries and executes witches. What sort of religion can come out of a place that marries off ten year old girls and murders old women on charges of witchcraft? The sort that flies planes into skyscrapers, murders teenage girls for using Facebook and bases its entire society on a ladder with Muslim men at the top, Muslim women a few rungs below and everyone else somewhere at the bottom.

The Saudis are not an aberration, they are Islam in its purest and truest form. That is why Al Qaeda was founded by a Saudi and why Saudis, the wealthy citizens of a wealthy kingdom, are its best recruits. It is not poverty or oppression that moves them to kill, but wealth and privilege. . . .

The endgame of the Arab Spring and the immigration Hegira is to reduce the entire world to the level of Saudi Arabia. And that means eliminating outside influences in a long march to purification. Islamists know that they cannot enjoy complete cultural dominance over their own people until their rivals in the West are obliterated. To turn Egypt and Malaysia into Saudi Arabia, and to purify Saudi Arabia, the infidels must be brought down, their religions subjugated and their nations replaced with proper Islamic states.

Islamic leaders are under no illusion that religion is a spiritual matter, they know that it is a numbers game. Wage enough wars, terrorize enough nations, marry enough barely post-pubescent girls and use them to crank out an endless supply of babies, intimidate or trick enough infidels into joining up and you win. That was how Islam took over so much territory and spread around the world, that is how it is doing it again now. . . .

Islam is savage, intolerant, cruel and expansionistic, not due to a misunderstanding, but an understanding of the worst aspects of human nature. It is what it is and no amount of wishing will make it otherwise. We have opened the door to the desert and a hot wind blows through into the northern climes. Either we shut the door or get used to living in the Saudi desert.

And while you’re thinking about these things, and after you have read the whole article, you can then watch the video above.

Obama and the decline and fall of the Roman Empire

I have also in the past noted the connection between the Roman emperor Commodus and the American President. Just to put you in the picture, Commodus is the emperor who fights Russell Crowe in Gladiator. He was the son of Marcus Aurelius who fought a succession of wars against barbarian invaders and when he died the wars continued but Commodus was made of different stuff. It is one of those hard to measure statistics but from the time of Commodus the standard of living in Europe is said to have dropped for the succeeding 1000 years and did not return to the level it was at in AD 187 until sometime in the sixteenth century. So today, there is this article, Obama and Commodus which begins:

The Roman Emperor Commodus turned away from a fight against barbarians along the frontier to take up more rewarding domestic pursuits. It didn’t work out so well for the Emperor.

It didn’t work out for anyone else either, aside from the barbarian invaders. And on Commodus and the ruin of the Empire, we have this:

Aurelius made his contribution to Rome’s failings. Staying with the passing of power from father to son, he had his son Commodus succeeed him, which began Rome on a path of ruin.

Whenever I teach the business cycle, I always point out that it is a cycle, that every downturn is followed by an upturn. But whenever I teach the cycle, I always have in the back of my mind the Roman empire under Commodus. Barbarians do win from time to time, and the Dark Age that follows can last a very long time.
