Surely the leaders of the American left do not believe the things they say they believe

This is an article by the incomparable David Mamet: American Occupation. Let me get to the core points he makes:

Over the last two years in America, I’ve witnessed our own forces of evil with incredulity, despair, and rage. Corruption, blasphemy, and absurdity have been accepted by one-half of the electorate as the cost of doing business; as has the fear this acceptance generates. Does anyone actually believe that men change into women and women into men who can give birth, that the Earth is burning, the seas are rising, and we’ll all perish unless we cover our faces with strips of cotton?

No one does. These proclamations are an act of faith, in a new, as yet unnamed religion, and the vehemence with which one proclaims allegiance to these untruths is an exercise no different from any other ecstatic religious oath. They become the Apostles’ Creed of the left, their proclamation committing the adherent physically to their strictures, exactly as the oath taken on induction to the armed services. The inductee is told to “take one step forward,” and once they do he or she can no longer claim, “I misunderstood the instruction.”

Those currently in power insist on masking, but don’t wear masks. They claim the seas are rising and build mansions on the shore. They abhor the expenditure of fossil fuels and fly exclusively in private jets. And all the while half of the country will not name the disease. Why?

Because the cost of challenging this oppressive orthodoxy has, for them, become too high. Upon a possible awakening, they—or more likely their children—might say that the country was occupied. And they would be right.

There was a time one might be able to debate and discuss. But for those of us who were once even on the left, as it then was, the modern left is very possibly insane although it is much more likely they say things they do not personally believe. Insanity should not however be ruled out.

Who really wants you to know what is going on in the Ukraine?

Not that we may ever know, but this is a contrary view of what passes for fact in the Western media: Is It Possible To Actually Know What Has Been and Is Going On in Ukraine?

This is from near the start.

While I freely admit that I have a longstanding predisposition to distrust the standard American sources on the conflict in that part of Europe—and that my reading about and study of post-Communist Russia over the past twenty years inclines me to be more open to the Russian position in this crisis—at the same time I am very conscious that the first thing to suffer and disappear during war time is truth. And that both sides in this gruesome conflict employ propaganda and whatever media sources available to them.

This is from near the end.

In Ukraine, with the blessing of the Western countries, those who are in favor of a negotiation have been eliminated. This is the case of Denis Kireyev, one of the Ukrainian negotiators, assassinated on March 5 by the Ukrainian secret service (SBU) because he was too favorable to Russia and was considered a traitor. The same fate befell Dmitry Demyanenko, former deputy head of the SBU’s main directorate for Kiev and its region, who was assassinated on March 10 because he was too favorable to an agreement with Russia—he was shot by the Mirotvorets (“Peacemaker”) militia. This militia is associated with the Mirotvorets website, which lists the “enemies of Ukraine,” with their personal data, addresses and telephone numbers, so that they can be harassed or even eliminated; a practice that is punishable in many countries, but not in the Ukraine.

Nothing is really known other than that there are plenty of those running the various shows who are deeply invested in our remaining as ignorant as they can possible ensure.

There is a real symbiosis between the major American media and the political
establishment, centered in Washington D.C. That virtual unity includes both the Democrats and the Republicans, who, if anything, are more war like than their supposed opponents. Indeed, a friend of mine commented that he thought it significant that on the war the positions of Fox News and CNN were almost identical; he said that because he believed that since all the
major news sources were in agreement, then certainly what they presented was truthful….

The more I read, each morning dozens of sources from all over the world, the
more I seriously doubt the commonly-held mantra of the near-totality of our major news media.

That is the one certainty and how things are likely to remain. And does this matter: Hundreds of Ukrainian nationalists march in honor of Nazi collaborator.

“Today, when there is a war with the occupier at the front, and the struggle against the ‘fifth column’ continues in the rear, we remember and honor the memory of Stepan Bandera,” said Andriy Tarasenko, leader of the nationalist party Right Sector.

During World War II, Bandera led the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, whose men killed thousands of Jews and Poles, including women and children, while fighting alongside Nazi Germany against the Red Army and communists.

It may not matter to others, but it matters to me.

Changing the Calculus in the Defence of Australia

This is directly taken from Ace of Spades but it is really all about us here in the South Pacific.

Take a look at the map below. With the waters of Kiribati and the Solomon Islands now subject to Chinese military control, China can be as dominant in the South Pacific as it wants to be.

Solomon Islands - Kiribati map.JPG

Lieutenant General Greg Bilton, the Australian Defence Force’s Chief of Joint Operations, told reporters in Canberra on Thursday that any stationing of Chinese navy vessels in the Pacific nation would “change the calculus” for Australia’s defence forces.

Changing the calculus doesn’t change the fact that Australia’s Navy is highly distracted by enforcing the culture war.

American military adventures since the end of WWII

Came across this list of American invasions that have occurred since the end of World War II. It’s not a complete list since I can think of a couple of others, and to give Vietnam a single line is to diminish its significance. Personally, I was happy with the anti-communist efforts, although that may be a view I developed perhaps post-1975. But it is an amazing list.

And while the present American administration is hopefully an anomaly, for we in the West American power remains indispensable. Nevertheless, I also think this is undeniably true: Joe Biden ‘in bed’ with Chinese Communist Party.

When the New York Post published its blockbuster reports on the evidence from the laptop just three weeks before the 2020 election – indicating Joe Biden not only had knowledge of his son’s business dealings, contrary to his claims, but also profited from them – the CEO of the company formed to deal with CEFC China Energy, Tony Bobulinski, came forward.

Bobulinski, Devine said, “verified, corroborated the material that we had published and had a whole slew of his own emails and documents and WhatsApp messages with Hunter Biden referencing Joe Biden.”

“And Tony Bobulinski had also met with Joe Biden twice when the former vice president was vetting him to be the CEO of this new joint venture with a Chinese energy company,” Devine noted.

I don’t think I ever thought any politician ever did what they did out of pure altruism, but the corruption that is evident at every turn across most of the West at the present time is astounding.

Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?

Shame Henry II had no one to rephrase and explain what the king had meant. Although, as it happens, the American President meant every word of it even if he was supposed to keep it a secret.

As discussed here.

The President of the United States, Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., who is 79 years old and suffering from senile dementia at the end of a long life of bullying, lying, boasting, conniving, grifting, grafting, and living off the public tit to an extent indecent even by Washington standards, declared war on Russia on Friday. In the course of a typically blustering, hectoring speech, the senescent Biden went off script and interpolated the following peroration: “For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power.”…

During his long occupation of a Senate seat, Biden served for many years on the foreign-relations committee, and learned all the wrong lessons without acquiring an ounce of real-world savvy. This is the problem with electing a lifelong senator to the presidency with no prior executive experience except ribbon-cutting ceremonies and attending foreign funerals as veep. Senators’ words have no real-world consequences; presidents’ do. Senators can say anything they want, because their words carry no executive authority and they cannot be legally held accountable for them. They’re meant for the ears of voters back home, not for the guy in the Kremlin with his finger on the button.

And just what button is that?

The problem is that the current president  of the United States is no longer disciplined by anyone, although those who are in charge are keeping everything as closely under control as possible. Biden himself is as illegitimate as it is possible to be since the evidence that he was fraudulently installed into office becomes more undeniable with each passing day, not that the media will fail to deny anything amiss, and will never report how the election was stolen.

Meanwhile, just as The Spectator asks, “will Biden’s talent for f***-ups lead to World War III?”, the big issue in the US continues to be the almost certainly fake and premeditated incident at the Academy Awards. This really was the front page on the largest selling newspaper in America’s largest city.

The United States is no longer a serious country and we are in great danger the more we rely solely on American protection.

Mad, bad and dangerous to vote for

Came across two very similar articles on the net with almost identical titles and with sentiments very close to my own. First this: “We Live in a Time of Utter Madness and We’re Ruled by Lawless Monsters”. If you would like to see who was saying what, please go to the link.

And then there was this: The Sheer Madness of Today’s Left. This one is by Victor Davis Hanson, and this is part of what he writes.

When the rock of green and woke ideology hits the hard place of reality, sheer madness always results.

The world prices of oil and natural gas are skyrocketing. At the time of a major war in Ukraine, the Western democracies have framed the conflict as existential, with a Russia/Mordor on the attack against a declining West/Gondor.

A subtext of the struggle is that the world’s illiberal regimes—fossil-fuel exporting Russia, Venezuela, Iran, and the various Middle Eastern autocracies—are getting richer by the day while destroying Mother Earth, as noble gas and oil importing green Western nations can scarcely afford to drive or heat their homes.

And this is how the article ends:

Yet madness is predictable when the unchecked left-wing’s demand for limitless and endless power collides with a hated, but unremorseful ideological agenda utterly divorced from reality. Put simply, when ideologues demand power but cannot maintain it politically because they are cruel ideologues that destroy what they touch, expect more of their insanity to follow.

For the bits in the middle, you can go to the link, on the off chance you have not yourself recognised how mad the left is and how much worse they lately seem to have become.

Might add this one in since it seems to be based on a similar theme: Joe Biden’s Big Gaffe Perfectly Exposes the Imbecility of the ‘Experts’. Being an imbecile is similar to being mad. Go to the link for more. Here’s the final line:

People with no real skin in the game pushing their costs onto others around the world, while showing not even a semblance of strategic thinking. That’s not morality. It’s imbecility.

On foreign policy she wasn’t all that bright

This is where this article is heading stated near the beginning.

If women were in charge, the old canard goes, then peace would break out all over the earth. Is that actually true? Madeleine Albright is a good case study to test out this hypothesis.

Unfortunately, Madeleine Albright’s long career represents all the failures and mistakes that, in just thirty years, have taken America from its superpower apex to the brink of imperial collapse.

Here’s where you can read the entire article: Oh You Think Women Don’t Start Wars? Ask Madeleine Albright (RIP).

And in case you don’t make it to the end, let me highlight this.

Madeleine Albright was a central figure in this toxic evolution of NATO from preventer to cause of international war. In 1997, she delivered testimony before Congress aggressively supporting the addition of former Warsaw Pact nations to NATO, on the ridiculous grounds that expanding NATO would not antagonize Russia (which was loudly protesting at the time)….

It is hard to imagine anyone else other than Madeleine Albright who perfectly encapsulated the combination of arrogance and delusion that drove America to create an avoidable catastrophe in Eastern Europe. Albright ridiculously claimed that expanding an anti-Russia alliance is needed to “build a constructive partnership” with Russia. She claimed the alliance is not anti-Russia, yet treats its concerns as entirely unworthy of any discussion. She even treated agreements to limit the deployment of nuclear weapons as entirely non-negotiable. Russia can complain all it wants, she said, before gloating that there is nothing the country can do to block NATO’s enlargement entirely on America’s terms.

And so, here we are today. She may be dead but the consequences of her decisions live on and will continue to live on.
