Trump gets HW out of the headlines (except for here)

TRUMP MOVES HARD TO UNDO OBAMA:
IRAN HEALTHCARE CHRISTMAS

All that at Drudge. BTW who’s that Obama chap? And then there’s this too:

GREAT AGAIN: CONSUMER SENTIMENT HITS 13-YEAR HIGH…

Meanwhile, the Weinstein saga continues to flatten the moral high ground that these scum have been pretending to hold.

‘Despicable’ Harvey Weinstein blasted during Hollywood ‘Power of Women’ lunch…

And eventually we will start looking again at what really happened Las Vegas, as in: Las Vegas police shift timeline again in concert massacre and Heros and Zeros: Vegas.

And for a bit more of the same on Vegas, Ann Coulter can entertain you with Las Vegas Massacre—The Story Is Coming Apart. That’s what makes the world so fantastic, everything is possible, even the impossible.

Who cares if NKorea EMP would kill “90% of Americans”?

MCGOWAN ACCUSES BEZOS OF HARASSMENT COVERUP
‘WON DIRTY OSCAR’
AMAZON SUSPENDS STUDIO CHIEF

That’s the lead story at Drudge and everywhere. Meanwhile this hardly gets a mention:

Congress warned: NKorea EMP would kill ‘90% of Americans’…
Mysterious absence of ‘rocket men’…
Earthquake sparks concern of another nuke test…

How about a bit more detail:

William R. Graham, chairman of the former EMP commission and its former chief of staff, Peter Vincent Pry, said that the U.S. has ignored the warning signs for years and that North Korea’s military moves this year must be seen as a wake-up call.

They said:

Just six months ago, most experts thought North Korea’s nuclear arsenal was primitive, some academics claiming it had as few as 6 A-Bombs. Now the intelligence community reportedly estimates North Korea has 60 nuclear weapons.

Just six months ago, most experts thought North Korea’s ICBMs were fake, or if real could not strike the U.S. mainland. Now the intelligence community reportedly estimates North Korea’s ICBMs can strike Denver and Chicago, and perhaps the entire United States.

Just six months ago, most experts thought North Korea was many years away from an H-Bomb. Now it appears North Korea has H-Bombs comparable to sophisticated U.S. two-stage thermonuclear weapons.

Just six months ago, most experts claimed North Korean ICBMs could not miniaturize an A-Bomb or design a reentry vehicle for missile delivery. Now the intelligence community reportedly assesses North Korea has miniaturized nuclear weapons, and has developed reentry vehicles for missile delivery, including by ICBMs that can strike the U.S.

This ought to be beyond politics, but I guess nothing is beyond politics. You would still think that this is more important than Harvey Weinstein but it’s not, or at least not yet.

If it’s political leadership you want I have just the man for you

As soon as I saw the title – The West is in strife — and looking for leaders – I went looking for what I knew would be there:

Since Trump’s elevation to the most powerful position in the world, his supporters are finding it difficult to point out his achievements.

This is written like a typical leftist nonce – Graeme Richardson in this case – as he tiptoes past the graveyard of dead socialist ideas. And dead though they be, they live on within the putrid and decaying minds of those who believe that though they have ruined everything they touch, next time will be better. As for PDT, two items from just today:

Rand Paul: “Biggest Free Market Reform of Healthcare in a Generation”

U.S. to withdraw from Jewish-history-denying Islamic-supremacist-promoting UNESCO

As it happens, just yesterday pretty well everyone who had supported Trump publicly during the election met up together for dinner. It wasn’t a dinner about Trump, but just a get together but the President did get mentioned and all of us were still ecstatic that he won. But you do have to wonder what Graeme is looking for if he can write this:

It may seem hard to believe but I am horrified at the thought of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn becoming Britain’s prime minister.

His brand of magic pudding economics will send the country broke, yet his appeal to younger voters is growing rather than diminishing. His vows to end austerity and start spending have a ready-made audience as many Brits consider they have been squeezed too often and for too long. Brexit will be difficult to negotiate and the power vacuum at the top in Britain is a real worry.

You know, if that really is the kind of thing on his mind, then PDT ought to be just the political leader he should want.

Swamp increasingly isolated by Trump

The actual headline at Drudge is WASH POST LEAD TUES: TRUMP INCREASINGLY ISOLATED IN SWAMP…. A very large part of the Republican Congressional party has about the same level of competence as Malcolm Turnbull and are about equally useless. That PDT finds himself driven to distraction by such imbeciles is easy for anyone to fathom except for the American political class, the public service, the media and Democrats in general. As for the rest of us, one can only live in hope.

Drudge matches this story with another from the NYT: Trump’s Fight with Corker Jeopardizes His Legislative Agenda. I read the story through very carefully and could not find a single issue mentioned, only this departing Republican Senator’s unspecified frustrations. No doubt the crony capitalists and other interests he served no longer find him worth the millions they have poured into his pocket over the years.

It’s a long, uphill fight. But even Malcolm has been forced by his own party room to cede some ground on global warming so there’s hope. But it is Donald Trump who has made all the difference. It’s still 50-50 at the moment, but I have not seen such determination in office since the days of Margaret Thatcher. May he prevail in our day as she did in hers.

The Trump effect

A perusal of mostly Drudge at the moment brings to mind what a difference it has made that Donald Trump is now president rather than the pathetic Hillary or the incompetent buffoon who was there before.

The right not to be murdered by religious fanatics

Although forty-plus years an Australian, Canadian born and North American to the last so spent the first part of my life next to the US. And while one of those extremely nice Canadians, I have an enormous admiration for the US and its way of life. Been there often and always feel I am perfectly at home, no matter where I am. Once on the left – I actually attended the very first gay marriage in San Francisco sometime in 1972 – now on the other side but that is merely because the left has gone insane. I’m not sure that I have changed my political views on most things since JFK. I’m not even sure I was ever actually against the Vietnam War; I even remember mentioning to a draft dodger friend that if I had been an American I would have gone off and been drafted. And I remember the conversation so well because it astonished me when I realised that I had said just what I believed. But I was a Canadian so who really knows?

On guns, let me merely direct you to Kurt Slichter who says more or less what I think myself: Nothing Makes Liberals Angrier Than Us Normals Insisting On Our Rights. His opening, which leaves nothing to misunderstand:

I don’t agree with liberals often, because I’m not an idiot and because I love America, but when they once again say, “We must have a conversation about guns!” I still couldn’t agree more. And, since all we’ve heard is you leftists shrieking at us all week, I’ll start it off.

You don’t ever get to disarm us. Not ever.

And here is the thing. I have been to the US often, from when I was under ten and then again in July, and even spent much of the time in Las Vegas. It has never crossed my mind on any trip to the US that I was ever in the slightest danger of being shot. Didn’t like being in New York in the pre-Giuliani years, but that aside I have been in approximately 40 of the 50 states with never a thought on my mind about the American constitutional right to bear arms. It’s how they do things, and it is how the US is. And it is part of what has made the US the astonishingly great country that it is. Different from every other country on earth.

But this I do think about, and in the US more than anywhere, and that is the trouble and hassle it takes to get on an airplane. And why all this trouble and hassle? Because there are people in the world who would, for their own insane political ends, blow up any planes they could. I wish someone would do something about that, but even if they can’t, I wish they would put up in large print on every airport metal detector across the world, signs that explain just why it is being done. Never mind the American constitutional right to bear arms. How about the human right not to be blown up by religious fanatics?

Kick ’em in the other knee

There was a time in my own lifetime that a chant like this was as smutty and dirty as it was possible to be. But times do change.

Rah rah ree
Kick ’em in the knee
Rah rah ruts
Kick ’em in the other knee

More important, what has truly changed is who is the President of the United States. From the very first moment last season when the first player took a knee, as they say, while the Star Spangled Banner was being played and no one did a thing, I never watched another game again until the Superbowl and then only because it was Tom Brady.

You may think this is trivia and beneath the dignity of a president, but this is exactly why he was elected. And while it’s politics, since anything of this kind done by a president is politics, it is also his natural instinct to be disgusted by those who have lined up with the players who have refused to stand for their national anthem.

From the last one:

One of the most premier Never Trumpers throughout the 2015-16 campaign was Rich Lowry, National Review Online. He wrote and filed a piece yesterday called, “Why Trump Is President,” and his Alabama speech Friday night and his comments on the NFL is what Rich Lowry now realizes is why Trump is president. It isn’t complicated. You have a man who is very clear in his love for the country, his love of its traditions and his appreciation for it.

And on the other side you have people who are willing to portray themselves as not, whether they know it or not. There’s no way Trump loses in this. You may think so, but there’s no way he does. There’s no way the NFL wins, if this continues as it is. The ratings are down last night. The early returns — we don’t have, of course, all the metered markets, the overnights. Some of them are in. But they were down, and it’s not insignificant, the numbers that are down.

This is not a sideshow, it is the real thing. This is how we take back our culture from the barbarians inside the gate. And no one but PDT could even have taken this burden on, never mind brought it off.

The Oz has become the local propaganda arm of the North Koreans

The central point is that North Korea is developing nuclear weapons and a delivery system that can land them in the United States. Other than let them go on forever developing these armaments and the ICBMs to go with them, what should be done? No one really knows, but the primary response has to be to take this threat seriously, as something really dangerous that has to be dealt with. So what do we find at The Australian today. First this: Inside nuclear North Korea. Never mind the vacuous text, here’s the photo that comes with the story:

Very sweet. Then there is the foreign policy sage, Greg Sheridan: Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump enter sick dynamic. So this is what Greg finally says which is about as fatuous and inane as possible.

Any way you slice it, when nuclear-armed states are making bellicose threats against each other, the world is confronting an extremely dangerous moment.

You don’t say? Look, Greg, who is making the threats and who is trying to work out what to do on our behalf? If you have a suggestion on what to do, put it on the table. Otherwise, why don’t you start by pointing out that if nuclear weapons begin to fly we will be at the other end, and in the meantime just shut up.

Not that this is a nothing issue either, since I am one of those who stopped watching the NFL when this kneeling for the anthem began. And then, sports fans, there is this. The vid is by Mark Dice:

[My thanks to max for sending the second vid along.]

My goodness, a golfing tweet about Hillary by the President of the United States!
