In Trump’s America: Mr 53%

Following the Mueller saga has been quite a diversion from politics as it normally is, but this had occurred to me as well: Rod Rosenstein may have appointed Mueller to save Trump from Obama’s FBI and DOJ.

At this point I do think it’s very possible that Rosenstein recognized the democrat-led conspiracy and had enough.  He realized that there was no chance Trump was going to receive fair treatment because of the wide spread corruption. He then appointed Robert Mueller- to take the Russian accusations out of the hands of the FBI and the corrupt Obama Intelligence Community. The last honest man at the top of the IC was Admiral Mike Rogers. Rosenstein released the letter describing the Mueller appointment, but in August Mueller gave Mueller an additional directive allegedly to specifically investigate Paul Manafort.

Mueller then packed his team with the most virulent and rabid anti-Trump people possible. This turned out to be fortuitous. The worst possible jury found no evidence of collusion or conspiracy, a conclusion from which democrats have yet to recover.

And the President does like to to accumulate enemies of the finest kind: Trump Climate Panel Could Expose Huge Fraud, Hence the Hysteria. Would Trump approve the Adani mine? What a question!

The collective freak out over President Donald Trump’s proposed Presidential Committee on Climate Science (PCCS) highlights the fact that the hysteria surrounding the man-made global-warming hypothesis is unscientific — and that it must be re-examined by competent, credible experts. According to scientists and experts, if the science on “climate change” were truly settled, Democrats, tax-funded climate alarmists, and the establishment media would all be celebrating another committee to confirm that “conclusion.” Instead, the unhinged shrieking over Trump’s plan to investigate the matter strongly suggests something very fishy is going on, critics argued. Indeed, there is a good chance that even more fraud could be revealed.

He also accumulates some of the best people as friends as well. WATCH: Candace Owens DESTROYS Democrat in congressional hearing after getting unfairly smeared. You may want to go back and read the story to see just why she was so angry.

Turning the lights off in America and everywhere else

This is a matching political post to the more technical Getting the lights back on in Venezuela. It’s hard to work out the motivations that lie behind the green agenda, whether pure ignorance, malice, envy, stupidity, greed, short-sightedness, or whatever. All are included. The only element left out because none of it is present is enlightened self-interest, of which there can be none at all. And parties of the left are all of a piece. You want the green nude eel in Australia, we have two parties – at a minimum – whose aim is to provide exactly that.

More here on the same thing from Powerline: DEMOCRATS PUNT ON THE GREEN NEW DEAL. The conclusion:

Climate change alarmism is a joke. It exists only for purposes of domestic politics, and as an excuse to feather the nests of “green” entrepreneurs who support the Democratic Party.

Comes with this as one of the comments.

An “end to global warming” has never been the point. The point of all of this is that “saving the planet” is a fantastic rationale for injecting social warrior justice politics into virtually every aspect of both society and private life. It is a doorway to POWER and this lust for power is the only reason for this zeal to “fight climate change.” As others have more eloquently said, if you accept the premise that that human actions damage the planet (cause global warming) then it stands to reason all human actions must be controlled. And, if you are a social justice warrior, you are willing to countenance the lie to achieve power because you are so good, your motives are so pure and are just so much morally and spiritually superior to “Them” that the lie is justified. It represents a view of the universe where “the natural elect” should have the right to do whatever they want.

Clueless lambs in a world of wolves

Let me begin with one of my favourite quotes from JS Mill. Only useful if the aim is to discover the truth to the extent that truth can ever be known. It is not for those whose aim is to grab hold of some emotionally satisfying intellectual crutch and then hang on for dear life. This is what should be taught to all students (and their teachers).

“He who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that. His reasons may be good, and no one may have been able to refute them. But if he is equally unable to refute the reasons on the opposite side, if he does not so much as know what they are, he has no ground for preferring either opinion… Nor is it enough that he should hear the opinions of adversaries from his own teachers, presented as they state them, and accompanied by what they offer as refutations. He must be able to hear them from persons who actually believe them…he must know them in their most plausible and persuasive form.

It actually both astonishes and terrifies me as well that not one of my friends from School and University has changed their minds on any major political issue since those times. This even includes as close a friend as I ever had who ended up a Vice President of Canada Life Insurance, but has remained a committed Marxist through it all right into the present. So when I see how warped our present batch of students are, it really does make me fear for their future. Clueless lambs they are in a world of wolves.

Craig Kelly goes into the climate lion’s den to deal with the miseducated who will never examine the other side just in case they might find out how wrong they are: CLIMATE STRIKE DEBATE: TEEN ACTIVISTS VS. POLITICIANS.

You can watch Craig’s conversation at the link. And below is a copy of his facebook page discussing these same issues. I apologise for the small print.

And the green grass grows all around, all around

Just finished Stephen Hicks’ absolutely brilliant Explaining Postmodernism more of which anon. In the meantime, a true life adventure on the way to work just today.

The mechanisms used by the left to shut down counter arguments are at every turn, which is a large part of what Stephen Hicks discusses and explains. And there I was just having finished the book, sitting on the train exchanging points of view with a trio of school girls on their way to the demo on global warming – they were carrying their protest signs which is why I even got into this conversation since I don’t normally talk to anyone on public transport. My only point to them was that they have never read anything by someone who is critical of their beliefs, that they have only read people on their own side who mis-represent our arguments. (They tried the riff on me that how could I know what they read, but you know what, in this case I absolutely do know.)

So who should we read? they asked, in their typically insincere snooty and scornful public-school-arrogant way. So I said, Ian Plimer, who was naturally an unknown to them. An Australian, I added. So who have you read? they asked. So I replied, Al Gore. And they said, who is he? You do have to laugh.

And then, on top of everything else, they accused me of being “an old man”. I would have pushed the alarm bell and called the anti-ageist thought police but they had to get off anyway. A good time was had by all, specially me. And let me add that there was an Asian woman I was sitting with – half my age but twice the age of those young maidens – who laughed with me at them when they got off.

It was the absolute closed-mindedness of the three that in the end got me. I suggested to each individually that they might be the type of person who was open to testing other arguments just to see how well their own stand up, but each of them denied absolutely they were that kind of person. Perhaps one of them is, although I will never know. Depressing that they may be right about how absolutely invincible their ignorance is, and how determined they are to remain that way. At least now, however, they are aware that some people might think their opinions are empty and ignorant, even if I am old and past it, and they could not care less.

The picture, by the way, is from The Spectator: How the school student strike reduces kids to puppets.

Our international reputation for green political stupidity continues to grow

Let me start with this suggestion: IT MUST BECOME ILLEGAL FOR ANY INDIVIDUAL OR BUSINESS PROVIDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO POLITICAL PARTIES TO BE GIVEN A GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY OF ANY KIND TO UNDERTAKE ANY FORM OF INFRASTRUCTURE CONSTRUCTION IN AUSTRALIA. Let me now continue.

I posted this yesterday Look! Australia is now setting the international standard for green idiocy but there’s even more today. You must read each of these through yourself to see how ridiculous Australia now looks to others who understand just what a low-grade con global warming is. These could be in either order, but will start here: The Greatest Scandal in the History of Science. It’s about us, but this is only one bit of a longer post:

I have written many times about the unwarranted “adjustments” to measured past temperatures by government agencies, which serve to inflate the modest warming that has occurred in recent decades. Organizations around the world (NOAA and NASA-GISS here in the U.S.) have done this over and over, usually surreptitiously. The Manhattan Contrarianshares my opinion that this misrepresentation of the historical record is the worst scandal in the history of science. The most recent instance comes from Australia.

Another Australian named Gillham has also worked to uncover the shenanigans at Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology. He created this chart, which plots the original raw temperature records against ACORN1 and ACORN2. You can plainly see how those responsible for the records have systematically lowered the measured temperatures of earlier years in order to inflate the warming of recent years:

The Contrarian comments:

As you can see, the “raw” and “v1” temperatures tend to be close — sometimes one higher, sometimes the other. But v2 is significantly lower across the board in the earlier years. Then, suddenly, in the recent years, it tracks the “raw” almost perfectly.

And then there’s this: Australia’s Obsession With Hopelessly Intermittent Wind & Solar Wrecking Entire Power Grid. There you find this among many other things.

Australians once enjoyed affordable power, reliably delivered: the chaotic delivery of wind and solar changed all that. Australian power prices have rocketed out-of-control: its wind and solar power capital, South Australia pays the highest electricity prices, in the world.

Mass power cuts (aka load shedding and demand management) and mass blackouts are the new normal. And yet, the lunatics responsible are hell-bent on doubling down to deliver the final and fatal blow to Australia’s Eastern Grid (geographically, the largest interconnected power grid on the planet).

We are the stupid country and all the prior luck in the world will not compensate for our willingness to allow our political parties to be subsidised by the green industry.

And if you think any of this is about to stop, you should see the front page of The Oz this morning: Carbon cut apocalypse: cost of ALP energy plan.

Are Australians really this stupid? C’mon, Malcolm’s gone and Julia’s gone with him. Why does this idiocy continue?

AND THIS TOO: Just sent to me. He talks about climate as a cycle, in the same way I might talk about economic growth and unemployment. Anyway…

AND THE STORY JUST SHOWED UP ON LUCIANNE.COM

The Greatest Scandal in the History of Science
…that made billionaires out of the hoaxers.

Look! Australia is now setting the international standard for green idiocy

From Instapundit.

UNEXPECTEDLY: Australia’s Obsession With Hopelessly Intermittent Wind & Solar Wrecking Entire Power Grid.

As Jo Nova explains, electricity generation and delivery is a finely balanced thing; and the sudden massive surges and collapses that are part and parcel of wind and solar generation are taking their toll, with much worse to come.

Ayn Rand didn’t write The Return of The Primitive as a how-to guide.

Plus this from the comments thread among many that discuss Australia.

Here’s a map of Australia’s shale gas formations, which are comparable in size to U.S. shale reserves. It’s not a matter of there not being an alternative answer, it’s just a matter of the politicians there to stop buying into the idea that freezing is better than fracking….

2019 Battle Lines: Capitalism and Growth (L-N) versus Socialism and Degrowth (ALP)

The story is from the US and about them but applies to us just as well: 2020 Battle Lines: Capitalism and Growth (R) versus Socialism and Degrowth (D). Here is much of the article but there is more at the link.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a character familiar to anyone who has spent substantial time on campuses in the past two decades

She’s a walking, talking social justice warrior soundbite machine, someone whose knowledge is a mile wide and an inch deep. Social media, where she excels, is perfect for shallow but woke wisdom.

At one level, she is the gift Donald Trump and Republicans could not have hoped for in their wildest dreams. Her wacky Green New Deal is so preposterous in many of its details and in its totality, it is a caricature. It’s a prime example of what I call Progressive or Parody?, where it’s “very hard to distinguish progressive political and social positions from parody.”

That four of the leading Democrat presidential candidates (Harris, Warren, Booker, Gillibrand) rushed to co-sponsor or endorse the Green New Deal will be a theme Republicans will drive home from today through Election Day 2020. That these four kneecapped themselves as General Election candidates is Ocasio-Cortez’s greatest accomplishment (for Republicans) so far.

At another level, though, Ocasio-Cortez should be taken seriously precisely because she is a character familiar to anyone who has spent time on campuses in the past two decades. She represents an ignorant ahistorical adoration for socialism that has captured a significant portion of the Democratic Party. Socialists like Ocasio-Cortez are the energy in the Democratic Party, which explains why presidential candidates immediately jumped on her bandwagon.

Capitalism versus Socialism is one battle line for 2020. Whether or not the ultimate Democrat nominee endorses the Green New Deal, the Green New Deal will be made to be the Democrat platform whether Democrats like it or not. Let’s have a vote on Capitalism versus Socialism.

At another level, it’s not just Capitalism versus Socialism. In listening to a 2015 audio of Mark Levin, I heard a term I had not heard before: Degrowth.

What is Degrowth? An academic association devoted to Degrowth describes it as follows:

Sustainable degrowth is a downscaling of production and consumption that increases human well-being and enhances ecological conditions and equity on the planet. It calls for a future where societies live within their ecological means, with open, localized economies and resources more equally distributed through new forms of democratic institutions. Such societies will no longer have to “grow or die.” Material accumulation will no longer hold a prime position in the population’s cultural imaginary. The primacy of efficiency will be substituted by a focus on sufficiency, and innovation will no longer focus on technology for technology’s sake but will concentrate on new social and technical arrangements that will enable us to live convivially and frugally. Degrowth does not only challenge the centrality of GDP as an overarching policy objective but proposes a framework for transformation to a lower and sustainable level of production and consumption, a shrinking of the economic system to leave more space for human cooperation and ecosystems.

Watch this video promoting degrowth, and it sounds a lot like the Green New Deal.

And in Oz, these people have already blown up power stations and are dead set on a socialist-green agenda. There’s a lot of stupidity around. I just hope there isn’t that much, but we shall see soon enough.

The Green Socialist agenda

What is most useful in the greater scheme of things is that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is more proof than anyone could wish to have how mad they are, but also that they have an agenda. But just because you and I think they’re mad doesn’t mean they won’t get their way on much of what they seek. There are plenty out there just like them. Green Socialism is the farthest extreme of mass poverty creation ever devised, but as Maduro in Venezuela makes all too evident, just because they have wrecked the place does not mean you can change course once they take political power into their own hands. The rest is from Drudge this morning.
