How is this not the death of the West?

The only part of the globe in which individual freedom is among the highest and most important values is being inundated by people for whom individual freedom has next to no value within their cultural norms. Listening to the chants of “freedom, freedom” from people who have no idea what freedom means in a Western context makes me worry about the future like nothing else I have seen in my own lifetime. The virtually unknown lessons of Palmyra make you even wonder whether the architectural glories of Europe will remain a century from now.

And then there is the deal with Iran, a minor item on Drudge today, already old news.

ARMS RACE: Kerry Promises Billions in Weaponry to Israel, Saudis in Wake of Nuke Deal…

TOP BRASS: Deal INCREASES Likelihood of War…

You give the most belligerent and ideologically crazed nation in the Middle East the right to build nuclear weapons, and what else can you expect other than an increased likelihood of war. If we thought the twentieth century was the bloodiest in history, wait till we count up the dead at the end of this one.

Hillary’s rules for radicals

hillary rules for radicals

Speaking of which, why does no one even bother to mention that Hillary’s senior thesis was on Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals. Once upon a time unavailable. Now, it is hardly worth a mention; it is, if anything, a feature and not anything she needs to hide. She has the same genealogy as Obama. If you are interested, you can read it here. You won’t find anything you don’t already know, which is in itself a large part of the problem.

Parties of the left must lie to get elected

From the United States:

And from Australia:

It is just as straightforward as anything in politics I know. The left lies and are not then corrected by the media. Neither of the above were minor issues of no substance. In both instances the lie was vital to gathering the votes necessary to win an election. Had Obama said that you will not be able to keep your health plan, or had Gillard said that there would be a carbon tax under the government she led, both would almost certainly have lost the elections they were both then in the midst of.

Now we are dealing with the absolute falsehoods surrounding Dyson Heydon. The real issue is whether there are a series of corrupt union officials who are syphoning huge amounts from the unions they lead while selling out the workers they represent. The issue is not whether the Commission is run by someone who may or may not in the privacy of the polling booth vote for the Coalition. Labor must lie, and in lying must depend on the media for protection. To say or print the truth in this instance, that yes there does appear to be evidence of quite a bit of union corruption, would not pave the way to election success for Labor. The ALP knows it, which is why it is trying to discredit Heydon, and the media knows it, which is why they are trying to do the same. We live in very dangerous times, when the media, who clearly understand what they are doing in protecting such corruption from being recognised by every voter across the nation, does all it can to hide, distort and mislead, with the unmistakeable intention of doing what it can so that Labor can win the next election. Without the full blown assistance of the media, parties of the left could never win, or at least not with the values they now represent.

Media lies and the parties of the left

The parties of the left depend on lies to get elected, and even more so depend on the news gathering organisations to suppress any news that might harm the left. Here is Andrew Klavan making that point:

Here is the first rule of “mainstream” news coverage in America: Whenever the prejudices and illusions of left-wingers are confirmed by an individual incident, the incident is treated as representative; when those prejudices and illusions are contradicted, the incident is considered an aberration — and treating it as representative is deemed hateful.

You would think that everyone knew that, but not everyone does. You would think that everyone who does know that would discount any news source from the usual sources as tainted, but not everyone does that either. The left and the media are now as one. The media know the power they have and they are filled with those who are prepared to lie and distort every message they write and print to perpetuate the left in power.

How to spot a climate crank at a 100 paces

climate cult

There are some cults you spot right away, such as the Hari Krishnas who are found on the footpath everywhere. And then there are the cults that spring up in the most surprising places, like the cult of global warming. This is a guest post at Watt’s Up with That: The ‘Cult’ of Climate Change (née Global Warming). There are lots of such cults which are forms of supposedly settled science whose only value is that they provide a carte blanche to government cronyism. They also provide for their adherents a feeling that they are in the know, and even when they are a majority, a belief that they have special insight into the actual way things are unavailable to others. There is not a subject area in which they are not found. The article gives you a means to spot them when they are associated with climate absolutism. This is how the article begins:

This is the opinion of Nobel Prize Winning Physicist Dr. Ivar Giaever , Prof. Richard Lindzen, and many others. Climate change alarmism has a surprising number of attributes of a medieval or even ancient religion. Nevertheless, real religions have some pre-requisites, like a tradition spanning at least few generations. So the proper name for climate alarmism is a cult. And these are the telltale attributes.

Obama has no idea what rent seeking is so Charles Koch has to tell him

Here is something Obama will never understand:

It’s not going to help the country to be subsidizing uneconomical forms of energy — whether you call them ‘green,’ ‘renewable’ or whatever. In that case, the cure is worse than the disease. And there is a big debate on whether you have a real disease or something that’s not that serious. I recognize there is a big debate about that. But whatever it is, the cure is to do things in the marketplace, and to let individuals and companies innovate, to come up with alternatives that will deal with whatever the problem may be in an economical way so we don’t squander resources on uneconomic approaches.”

The man speaking was Charles Koch after he had been personally attacked by the President:

Obama said of those who try to thwart policies intended to boost clean energy: “That’s not the American way. That’s not progress. That’s not innovation. That’s rent seeking, and trying to protect old ways of doing business and standing in the way of the future.”

Obama continued: “I mean, think about this. Ordinarily, these are groups that tout themselves as champions of the free market. If you start talking to them about providing health care for folks who don’t have health insurance, they’re going crazy: ‘This is socialism, this is going to destroy America.’ But in this situation, they’re trying to undermine competition in the marketplace, and choke off consumer choice, and threaten an industry that’s churning out new jobs at a fast pace.”

To which the reply was:

“I don’t know whether he knows what that phrase means, but ‘rent seeking,’ of course, is, in economic terms, is getting the government to rig the system in your favor. And that’s exactly what these so-called ‘renewable energy’ proponents are doing.”

Actually he does know that Obama doesn’t know. There are, in fact, a lot of things Obama doesn’t know to go along with all the things he does know that aren’t true.

No safe spaces for Christians

What does anyone know about the persecution of Christians? From Jim Goad:

They know nothing of Christianity’s first few hundred years under the Romans. They know nothing of Tamerlane leaving hundreds of thousands of decapitated Christian skulls in his bloody wake. They know nothing of the religious underpinnings of the Armenian genocide. They know nothing of the mass slaughter of Christians under totalitarian communist regimes. They certainly know nothing about the fact that since the early eighth century, Muslim imperialists have raped, murdered, tortured, and beheaded Christians everywhere they could get away with it. They don’t know that the mass persecution of Christians during the French Revolution is considered by many to be the first modern genocide. They don’t know that in Saudi Arabia, Christians are routinely whipped in public and executed. They don’t know that in North Korea, Christians are being exterminated in gas chambers. Despite all the chest-thumping they do about “Islamophobia” and “anti-Semitism,” they don’t seem to know that an estimated 80% of all modern religious persecution worldwide happens to Christians.

And they definitely don’t act like they know that for decades, the Middle East has been one ongoing slow-motion anti-Christian Kristallnacht that only seems to be escalating.

The left judges others by the standards it sets for itself

Attacking Dyson Heydon is an attempt to change the subject which Labor and the union movement are desperate to do. What has already been dug up and placed before the public is astonishing. But if the media can wear a PM setting up “slush funds” it will wear anything to defend the indefensible. This is an article with the very straightforward title, Here’s why the unions want to silence Dyson Heydon. From The Australian:

royal commission into union corruption

Unions can have a positive social purpose but not these kinds of unions. What sort of moral decay is required to be a bystander and wish to see this Commission shut down? The left doesn’t like to think of itself as defenders of Joseph Stalin, National Socialists, Castro’s Cuba and the Venezuela of Chavez. But in everything thing they do, they show themselves exactly like that. How we can defend ourselves against not just corruption but moral stupidity and intellectual dishonesty is a very tough question that every Western society must now try to deal with.

More news Americans don’t know

animus river

Once they have you hooked on the idea that everything that’s important will be reported and fairly at that, the leftmedia are able to swindle the wilfully ignorant. Nowadays, of course, these same people trust the media never to disturb their belief systems with inconvenient facts. Just think of this. It is Hugh Hewitt (HH) talking to Mark Steyn (MS) about the toxic dump by the Environment Protection Agency of the US on the Animus River in Colorado:

HH: Now I wanna do a test on my audience if they know the name Shaun McGrath. Shaun McGrath turns out to be the regional administrator of the EPA, formerly the mayor of Boulder. He joined the Obama administration as the deputy director of Intergovernmental Affairs at the White House in January of 2009. He is a political hack just like the OPM director Katherine Archuleta was a political hack. And Gina McCarthy didn’t show up at the “Yellow River” for a week. She’s running EPA. Remember the heck-of-a-job Brownie – remember after Katrina when it wasn’t even Bush’s fault that the mayor and the governor couldn’t get their acts together? This is a – they actually caused it! They punched the hole in the dyke, Mark! And no one knows the name or the fact that they’re political hacks from Team Obama.

MS: No, I know! And you know, the funny thing about it is all the people that I hear from because I’m in a big climate lawsuit at the moment. So I get hammered as a denier by all the usual people – the people that know the name of every Koch brother. The people who find if there’s some Zeppo Koch sitting on the board of some obscure NPR affiliate in the middle of nowhere – we’ll bombard NPR to demand that Zeppo Koch be removed from the board of advisors to the NPR affiliate. None of them are advertising these names. It’s the usual big climate mafia’s code of omerta. They all circle the wagons around the guilty bureaucrats…

HH: This really fits with your new book, “A Disgrace to the Profession”, because it is a disgrace to the profession. Your argument with Michael Mann on climate – here we have a real example where there are twelve thousand times the lawful levels of lead in this river now headed towards Mexico and Utah. People could get really sick doing this, but we have no coverage, yet we’re worried about the mythical rise of the oceans fifty years from now because the former was done by the Left on the orders by the Left in an attempt to take over the clean-up of Colorado mines and the other is a hypothetical imaginary threat that benefits the agenda of the Left. I don’t think it’s ever been this obvious to people.

I don’t think it’s obvious at all unless you care to look, which would first require the media to say what is going on. So the question is, what are the American media like that? Why are they knowingly contributing to the utter ruin of their own country, in the same way that the same kind of leftmedia in ours does the same. Do they actually want union corruption to continue? Would they like to see illegal migrants return? Are they complete economic zombies about public spending? Do they really not care if we end up like Greece? It is a mystery, but disturbing whatever may be the cause.

Either Obama’s an idiot or he thinks we are

Or both. The start of an article on President Obama has lost the argument on Iran.

When your best argument for an agreement is that the deal’s opponents are “making common cause” with your negotiating partners, it’s safe to say you’ve lost the debate.

As for those who take his word for things being idiots, he was elected twice and the media still love him. Highly rational with a deep respect for the past, for freedom and the constitution is not part of their frame of reference.
