Matthew Gay for Victorian Leader of the Opposition

And after that, for Premier. So here’s some positive news: Matthew Guy launching leadership coup to oust Michael O’Brien

FORMER opposition leader Matthew Guy will launch a sensational bid to overthrow Liberal leader Michael O’Brien.

Mr Guy’s camp was trying to convince Mr O’Brien to stand down over recent days but will now seek a vote of 31 Liberal MPs on the party leadership on Tuesday.

It is understood Mr Guy has strong backing within the partyroom and believes he has a solid majority to topple Mr O’Brien amid growing frustration about the Coalition’s inability to gain ground against Premier Daniel Andrews.

Liberal Party sources have told the Herald Sun that research indicates Mr O’Brien is driving votes to Labor and private polling shows “he will take the party backwards”.

In June, an independent poll commissioned by the Herald Sun showed onefifth of voters had not heard of Mr O’Brien and 63 per cent of those surveyed would prefer to see Mr Guy back in the job.

The only bit hard to believe is that four fifths of voters actually had heard of Michael O’Brien. I know that in these days of covid-driven panic, people are grateful to governments that take the standard-issue international approach by closing down the economy and locking everyone in their homes. Even so, someone who might just possibly suggest that Daniel Andrews has been a bit heavy-handed (ie insane) ought to have been able to make some headway in cutting into Daniel Andrew’s lead in the polls. The present Opposition leader is not that person, but Matthew Guy is.

Last time O’Brien was saved because under the quarantine rules in Victoria, it was illegal for a group the size of the Opposition Party room to all meet together at one and the same time. That O’Brien used this to remain where he is proves once again how unfit for leadership he is. There are lots of other reasons, but that did stand out. Here is the supposed big negative:

Supporters of Mr Guy believe he is capable of shoring up votes being driven towards Labor and would be able to regain ground in traditional Coalition heartland.

But, if he is successful, he is expected to be quickly targeted over a 2017 dinner with alleged mafia figure Tony Madafferi at the Lobster Cave restaurant in Beaumaris.

Revelations about the meeting were aired before Mr Andrews’ landslide election win and similar attacks against him are likely to be revived by Labor if he returns to the role.

Meanwhile, Daniel Andrews has tried to sell out Victoria to the Chinese Road and Belt consortium. But it’s Victoria and the media are all flunkies of the left.

Anyway, you have to hope.

“Be well, living in your fascist state”

I just received a note from a friend in San Francisco. This is how it ends:

In the midst of this phase of the pandemic, I’m off to Paris for a 6 week travel spree culminating in the wedding of my stepdaughter in New Hampshire. Planes, trains, buses and automobiles.  Will stay as safe as I possibly can!

Hugs to you – be well, living in your fascist state

Who elected Daniel Andrews as our jailer in chief?

Getting our priorities right

Political leaders in democracies seldom lead but almost invariably follow. This is from Instapundit, which is following an international trend to laugh at Australia and Australians, but I wish we were not so clearly following a lead set elsewhere.

NOT THE BABYLON BEE: This news clip from Australia is unbelievably dystopian (video).

1984: A warning for the rest of us, a how-to guide for the left. And a whole lot of people in Australian government need to be asking themselves: Are we the baddies?

There is also this: Australia’s Federal Treasurer Admits He Wants a Net Zero by 2050 Commitment. Does he know better? Why would he care even if he did? Here is the lead statement at the link:

Just in case you thought the politician in charge of Australia’s financial stability has a clue, the following interview with the Guardian should settle any doubts.

Ok, Covid is a scam just like global warming. But we didn’t start it, we are just going along with the rest of you. It’s not us who are the idiots, if you ask me, but the rest of the world. You want to know our priorities, see below:

I’d rather be in Melbourne than New York.

An unvaccinated doctor is reportedly lying to her bosses about having had the vaccine

What should one make of this: ‘No need to rush’: Senator warns of FDA’s shortcuts to full approval of COVID-19 vaccine.

Sen. Ron Johnson called out the Biden administration’s health agencies Sunday for shortcutting the usual safety reviews in a rush to give final approval to COVID-19 vaccines, including failing to account for thousands of deaths and adverse reactions among people worldwide who got the shots….

He said the fast-track decision appeared more political than scientific since it skipped the usual formal advisory committee meeting and did not fully account for the reports of deaths and disabilities suffered by people after being vaccinated.

There is then this which I find of more than just slightly interesting. From HOSPITALS IN DARK OVER JABS in the Herald-Sun.

An unvaccinated doctor at a major Melbourne hospital is reportedly lying to her bosses about having had the vaccine.

Her mother revealed the deceit in a Reignite Democracy Australia group chat, saying: “She’s now telling people she’s had it; she’s using this as a strategy to get people off her back.”

Aside from this doctor having such a repulsive mother, the real question is why she doesn’t wish to be vaxxinated. That would be a much more interesting story even if it might be contrary to the political narrative of the moment. And interestingly, the full story is that hospitals cannot find out which members of staff have been vaxxinated. I wonder what their un-vaxxinated staff members know that we don’t know but perhaps should know.

Let me also add this: Hundreds of doctors sign open letter to PM: Need debate on ‘flawed covid guesses’. It comes with this at the end, which suggests there may be others who have the same view but are keeping quiet.

The signatories, from a broad range of specialities, came forward despite the risk of doing so to both their jobs and reputations.

And this is what the view was of those who did speak up.

A hundred and thirty three doctors, nurses, psychiatrists paramedics and midwives signed the letter released today which states that despite a “complete lack of widespread approval among health professionals,” of the pandemic policies, “no attempt” has been made to measure the harms of lockdown policies. The letter, also addressed to the Health Secretary and First Ministers for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland states: “You have failed to engage in dialogue and show no signs of doing so. You have removed from people fundamental rights and altered the fabric of society with little debate in Parliament.

And this, which is just another example of how ridiculous Australia is increasingly seen by the rest of the world: The Taliban are beating fewer people in Afghanistan than police in Australia. Comes with this picture.

Insurrection

Sent to me by a friend in Canada. Made by the New York Times and therefore as biased as they could possibly make it. That invasions of the legislature ought never to occur goes without saying. Politics is, nevertheless, a blood sport filled with emotion. That the riot and invasion of the Congressional offices on 6 January 2020 have been amplified to the fullest extent by the American left and the media is to be expected, which the video is a perfect example of.

This, however, is where matters now stand: FBI confirms there was no insurrection on Jan. 6, just a “Day of Rage” as stated by the NYT. Not quite Washington crossing the Delaware nor the Storming of the Bastille.

The Cambridge Dictionary defines “insurrection” as: “an organized attempt by a group of people to defeat their government and take control of their country, usually by violence”.

By that definition, there was no “insurrection” at the United States Capitol on Jan. 6, according to the FBI. Reuters reports:

The FBI has found scant evidence that the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was the result of an organized plot to overturn the presidential election result, according to four current and former law enforcement officials.

“Ninety to ninety-five percent of these are one-off cases,” said a former senior law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation. “Then you have five percent, maybe, of these militia groups that were more closely organized. But there was no grand scheme with Roger Stone and Alex Jones and all of these people to storm the Capitol and take hostages.”

This report is a devastating blow to President Joe Biden and Democrats, who have attempted to make the existence of an “insurrection” on Jan. 6 a key issue in the 2022 midterm elections. Reuters does note that some “cells of protesters,” including members of the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys, did coordinate to “break into the Capitol,” but the FBI found “no evidence that the groups had serious plans about what to do if they made it inside.”

None of this excuses the violent riot that happened on Jan. 6. The FBI has arrested 570 rioters and each and every one of them should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

But that is what the event was: a riot, just like so many other riots. Trying to politicize it and turn it into something it wasn’t won’t make the Capitol any safer.

We have had the same thing here, and even when I was in Canberra (although I wasn’t there on the day).

Exactly right. It was a riot, not an “insurrection”. There had been BLM riots across the country right up until then and thereafter as well. By the standards of the time, this was middle of the road. FWIW, the budget brought down the next day was the best budget any government has given anywhere ever.

This is more than just a slippery slope

There has been mass confusion in Victoria about who can access childcare. The Premier’s office has now confirmed children can access childcare if just one of their parents is an authorised worker.

And so it says in The Age. An “authorised worker”? You do have to wonder where this will end up, and if you don’t wonder, you really should.

And this is from the US about us: Police Fire Rubber Bullets and Pepper-Spray Into Large Crowd of Anti-Lockdown Protesters in Melbourne (VIDEO). They think this is appalling. Why don’t we?

And this is also about us from the US: Massive Unrest as Australia Adopts China’s Authoritarian ‘COVID-Zero’ Approach.

The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 and the resulting illness, COVID-19, has caused mass hysteria on a global scale. Perhaps no response is as shocking as what we see in Australia. The country is included in the group of western democracies globally and among the Five Eyes intelligence community members. Yet, the nation’s response to the pandemic can only be described as authoritarian.

I find this particularly on the money. We really do accept insanity as a rational response.

In early August, Melbourne, Australia, imposed a mystifying sixth lockdown because eight cases of COVID-19 were detected. As cases of the Delta variant spread from the early clusters in the cities, nearly every major metro went back to implementing lockdowns. They remain in place and bar people from leaving their homes except for essential exercise, shopping, and caregiving.

Eight deaths in the midst of a flu epidemic in a state with 5.5 million should hardly cause a tremor never mind eight cases. We are such clowns.

A friend of mine who is a doctor was made to stay home for fourteen days because he was in some supermarket when some other person who supposedly tested positive was there at the same time. The kinds of damage we are doing to our ability to just get on with life is absurd.

Naughty, naughty Victoria

This really is over the top. Who is he to get angry? What is he getting angry about? Does he get angry if people catch a cold? From The Herald-Sun: ANGRY DAN WARNS RULES MAY TIGHTEN

Mr Andrews said the spike in Victoria’s cases was “a very significant challenge, making today a bad day.

“I have no restriction announcements or rule changes but I can’t rule that out, ministers and public health officials will be sitting down this afternoon, this evening and into tomorrow determining whether there is any more we can do in terms of rules and settings to try and pull this up.

“Earlier in the week we talked about being at a tipping point. This is very, very serious, very serious indeed.

“I can’t be any clearer with the people of Melbourne and more broadly the people of Victoria. If we have a weekend this weekend like last weekend, next week it will be like Sydney.”

“It’s now up to every single Victorian to make the best possible choices, so we don’t get overrun with cases, so we don’t get locked into the year, so our nurses are not having to deal with hundreds and hundreds of patients who need a machine to breathe.

“We are right on the edge of this getting away from us.”

In total, 28,601 vaccine doses were administered and 48,273 coronavirus tests were received.

And maybe, just maybe, it is Andrews who is screwing up. After all, it is Victoria that has had the vast majority of the fatalities associated with Covid. Whose fault is that, Daniel?

Children collapse while being vaxxinated in Sydney

This was in Sydney: Australia: 3 children collapsed and 2 are in a coma after vaccination.

Australia vaccine stadium for children monitored by the police. Parents not allowed in, 3 children collapsed and 2 are in a coma!

It’s at the sydney Olympic park Qudos Arena.

There is a video of the moment at the link, or at least there is right now.

There’s this too: DISTURBING Video Shows Australian Police BRUTALIZING Children Over Mask Mandates.

And then this: Vax-entration Camps? Australian Government Builds “Mandatory Quarantine Facilities”, Officials Say Jab Is “Golden Ticket to Freedom”

The Government of Australia will be building what they call a “mandatory quarantine accommodation” which is set to open its first phase in “early 2022.” This will be the second of such facilities in the country and when it is finished it will be able to hold up to 3,000 in isolation as they quarantine.

And according to the story, people with Covid are already being taken away.

Who knows what is really happening, but what I do know is that the majority of the country would be onside with all of this.

The joke’s on us

The whole world is laughing at us and for good reason. Daniel Andrews is now world famous, as an idiot. Up till now only we knew it. Now everyone knows it.

More here. Much more. The heading for what is a quite long article with much more than just Tucker Carlson. From The Daily Mail.

US firebrand TV host SLAMS Daniel Andrews for his ‘martial law’ Covid lockdown and accuses him of treating Aussies like PEASANTS with bizarre ban on removing masks to drink booze
