Is it possible for her to lose?

There is no level of corruption that seems to matter. There is nothing she can do that will turn the media against her. Hillary Clinton makes history as first female presidential nominee – but is met with fury by Bernie Sanders supporters who walk out of Democratic convention.

Hillary Clinton became the first woman to earn a major party’s presidential nomination on Tuesday evening as Democratic delegates officially gave her the votes she needed to win the election.

‘History,’ was what she tweeted with a photo of herself on stage at a rally.

Bernie Sanders made a surprise appearance and moved to have Clinton named the nominee by acclimation after she had more than enough votes to win.

He joined his home state of Vermont, which passed the first time around in the roll call vote, for the history-making moment.

‘I move that all votes, all votes cast by delegates be reflected in the official record, and I move that Hillary Clinton be selected as the nominee of the Democratic Party for president of the United States,’ he said.

The gesture was to be a signal of unity and reconciliation during the fractured Democratic Convention.

His delegates, on the hand, were not so moved to accept the result of the vote. A group of them walked out in protest after Clinton officially won the nomination.

Not that it will stop this steamroller, but Julian Assange: ‘A lot more material’ coming on US elections. I wonder if he will include material on Trump this time.

Valerie Jarrett the denial

Do you want to understand the world in which you are living, read this article: Valerie Jarrett: How Much Control Does She Have Over Obama and Clinton?. It is said that Obama never makes a decision without consulting Jarrett first. The article is the first succinct political bio of Valerie Jarrett I have come across. Here is the nub:

There are a number of things about Valerie Jarrett that are worrisome. In 1977, while delivering a speech at Stanford University, she was quoted as calling herself an American citizen who seeks “to help change America to be a more Islamic country.” She went on to say, “My faith guides me and I feel like it is going well in the transition of using freedom of religion in America against itself.” This is an extremely alarming and even subversive comment, delivered right around the time that Islamic terrorism was beginning to set its roots in the Middle East.

There is more. She is known to have ties to the terrorist William Ayers. Her father in law, one Vernon Jarrett, is an official member of the Communist party who is also an associate of Frank Marshall Davis, himself a Communist activist who played mentor to Barack Obama during the future president’s childhood. We have here an Iranian Muslim who has stated her intention to transform America into an Islamic country, her desire to use the nation’s freedom of religion as a weapon against it, and who has highly questionable associates with terrorist and Communist connections. It is bad enough that this woman has our President’s ear; what is even worse is that it seems to go beyond that. Despite being an appointee who was never elected by the American people, Valerie Jarrett appears to have real influence in the White House.

An insider in the Obama administration has confirmed that Jarrett supported trading five detained terrorists in a prisoner swap for a single US Army Sergeant (Bowe Bergdahl) who had deserted his post. She was against tough treatment of the Islamic regime of Iran, and she is personally offended by the term “Islamic Terrorism”. Sure enough, our President to this day has refused to even utter the words, committed America to a disastrous “deal” with Iran that gives the rogue nation almost everything it wants, and went ahead with the lopsided prisoner exchange. Incidentally, the Obama administration swore that the terrorists released posed no threat – there is virtually no evidence that this is actually true.

Did you know any of this? Nothing about the Obama administration should be a surprise after you have read just this, and undoubtedly there is more. Compare the above with the sanitized version you find on Wikipedia. You can also find an article dedicated to showing that the article I have discussed above is wrong as the third item if you google her name. Here is “The Truth” as explained in the post:

Valerie Jarrett has never identified herself as a Muslim, and there’s no record of her saying that she wanted to help make America more like Islamic countries.

A social media post that went viral claimed that Valerie Jarrett uttered a comment making America more Islamic while she was attending school at Stanford University in 1977:

“I am a Iranian by birth and of my Islamic faith. I am also an American and I seek to help change America to be a more Islamic country. My faith guides me and I feel like it is going well in the transition of using freedom of religion in America against itself.”

The quote’s sentence construction isn’t consistent with the way American students at high-level universities like Stanford talk. It appears to have been said by someone who isn’t very familiar with the English language. In 1977, Valerie Jarrett was a junior at Stanford and had been living in the U.S. since the age of 5. It’s unlikely she would say something like, “I am a Iranian by birth and of my Islamic faith.”

In truth, Valerie Jarrett was born in Iran — but to American parents. Her father was a geneticist and pathologist named Dr. James Bowman who was born in Washington, D.C. In 1955, he accepted a position in Iran to study favism, a glucose deficiency disease. Valerie Jarrett’s mother, Barbara Bowman, was born in Chicago and became a professor and expert in early childhood education.

Valerie Jarrett was born while her parents were in Shiraz, Iran, in 1956. The family lived in London from 1961-1962 while James Bowman studied genetics. Then, the family moved to Chicago, the Stanford Alumni reports.

“Jarrett grew up in Hyde Park, the racially diverse neighborhood that abuts the University of Chicago, where her father worked. She went to Massachusetts for prep school, and on to the Farm (Stanford). Her conviction to attend Stanford was so strong it didn’t even occur to her to visit beforehand.”

Valerie Jarrett earned a degree in psychology at Stanford and then earned a law degree from the University of Michigan. She entered politics in the 1980s, working for former Chicago Mayor Harold Washington. It was while traveling in Chicago’s social and political circles that Jarrett met Barack and Michelle Obama.

Valerie Jarrett has served as a senior advisor to President Obama since his inauguration — and it’s true that a number of former White House staffers like press secretary Robert Gibbs and chief of staff Rahm Emanual reportedly resigned or were fired after run-ins with Jarrett, as the eRumor claims.

The press has also had an uncomfortable relationship with Valerie Jarrett, with a number of news outlets reporting that it’s not clear exactly what she does in the White House. Politico reports:

“For starters, even today, nobody knows precisely what Jarrett does in the White House. What exactly do her titles—senior advisor to the president, assistant to the president in charge of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, the Office of Public Engagement, the White House Council on Women and Girls—mean? More to the point, Jarrett has often used the aura of authority that these titles give her to stand in the way of talented White House staffers and a smoother-running administration, according to several books that have been written about the Obama presidency.”

So, Valerie Jarrett has had a number of well-documented run-ins with former White House staffers and has faced questions about what exactly her role in the Obama Administration is. But claims about Jarrett’s religious beliefs, or her intention to make America more like Islamic countries are false.

Well, that settles it.

Clinton Cash – the movie

Breitbart has released the movie so that anyone can now download. Fantastically corrupt and in the open as well. Meanwhile in Philadelphia, the Democrats are in chaos:

gReeTinGS froM pHillY
HIGH HEAT ALERT: DNC DAY 1…
LIVE…
BOOING DURING INVOCATION…
FLOOR BATTLE…
BERNIE TEXTS: PLEASE DON’T PROTEST IN ARENA!
Dems confiscating pro-Sanders signs…
Arrests and heat injuries…
Jeers for Pelosi at California Breakfast…
Wasserman booed off stage, escorted out by security…

4 brutal poll numbers greet Clinton at convention…

Yet the media and the American establishment will make her president if they can. You know all of the above only because it cannot be hidden from view. But to those who wish to see her president, none of it matters even the smallest amount. A week from now it will disappear from the news while they go on and on about Melania’s plagiarism.

Valerie Jarrett – who she is and what she believes

After 7-1/2 years you would think I ought to know all of this but I know almost none of it. Even the title is a little misleading: Valerie Jarrett: How Much Control Does She Have Over Obama and Clinton?. The article is the first succinct political bio of Valerie Jarrett I have come across. Here is the nub:

David Solway on How to Defeat Terrorism

How to Defeat Terrorism, offered not as a practical guide but as a demonstration that it cannot be done:

The measures and policies that would need to be put in place are so obvious that the failure to implement them is nothing but a sign of lethal complacency and moral cowardice. What are these measures? The list is not unduly long and, as I say, entirely obvious.

You can go to the link to find out what needs to be done which consists of a list of actions that will not be done. We no longer have a religion of our own which makes taking such steps all the more unlikely.

The alt-right

From a link picked up by Old Ozzie on a previous thread. I have kept Old Ozzie’s boldings.

If you listen to the mainstream media, the Alt-Right is the birth of an American far right Frankenstein that was mid-wifed by Donald Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric in this election cycle.

But what we are seeing now is bigger than even Donald Trump. It is part of a massive paradigm shift that has been underway for some time now. For those that have been paying attention, it is clear that nationalist, patriotic movements are everywhere ascendant in the West.

The endless migration of millions of 3rd world men into Europe, the callousness of the Elite class to the concern its Natives, and the fever-pitched identity politics of the Regressive Left have brought us to a crossroads… It should come as little surprise to nobody that the native populations of the West have started asking some hard questions about their own identity.

Who are we? What do our people stand for? Will we have a future if nothing changes?

These are some of the civilizational questions being raised for the first time in the West since the end of the Cold War. And the “Alt-Right” is the term (that hit the Internet by storm in 2015) under which many dissidents have rallied under in the United States. The etymology of the term however, does not go far in explaining the significance of this rapidly growing movement and the underlying trend in politics that it represents.

Context is King

The last 7 years (at least) have seen the complete takeover of national discourse and cultural exchange by a group of rabid left-wing fanatics in the West. These “Social Justice Warriors” as they have come to be known, have managed to push their fringe Trotsky-ist ideas on the cultural mainstream of America and now act as the enforcers of punishing speech codes in academic institutions, the HR offices of corporate America, the mainstream media and our elected officials.

They have managed to do so with the tacit approval and even outright encouragement of the Establishment Elites.

It is no exaggeration to say that the West is in a state of complete self-negation, lost and confused, angry as well- and willing to lash out. There has perhaps been no other time in history where the Western peoples have been so abjectly demoralized.

The younger generation of Westerners in particular has been systematically taught to be ashamed of their heritage during their 12+ years stint in the Education camps. It is especially noticeable in higher education, where students are taught to believe there is something uniquely oppressive in being a straight male, something uniquely oppressive in being of European descent, something particularly deplorable about being straight…and on it goes. And there are serious consequences for stepping out of the echo-chamber of ethno-masochism and self-hate…

It has come to the point where it is easier to come out publically to polite society as a Tranny than it is to come out as a Trump supporter.

But for every action there is a reaction. The witch-burning mob mentality of the Regressive Left engendered a reaction, and in 2015, the lame stream media finally caught a whiff of it. But even before the current year, many Nativist patriots, non-interventionists, economic nationalists or social conservatives found themselves unable to articulate their views in any public capacity without facing serious repercussions for their unfashionable WrongThink.

Consequently, many movements took to the wild unexplored reaches of the Internet to hone their rhetoric, conduct their discussions and reach out to new minds. By the very nature of the current political paradigm, the many disparate movements that were spawned online had to remain anonymous. (This is true in Europe as much, if not more than in the United States. ) And it seems that only now with the Donald Trump’s meteoric rise in the Republican party has the Overton Window begun to shift back to the right, and allowed for the public articulation of these taboo sentiments.

But what IS the Alt-Right? What do they stand for?

The span of blogs, sites and online communities that can be called “Alt-Right” is as vast as it is varied. They range from well established alternative dissident right sites like Unz, Vdare, Takimag, and Amren that pre-date the “Alt-Right” label and instead can be thought of as the inheritors of a Natural Conservative or Paleo-Conservative tradition in American politics. But there are also younger, more free-wheeling sites like The Right Stuff, and the masthead of the Alt-Right- Radix Journal.

To quote the Head Editor of Radix, Hannibal Bateman:

“The Alt-Right is a growing cultural and political movement that rejects the liberal and globalist hegemonies, particularly in the United States, that have defined the post-World War II West. As such, it is a young, technologically savvy movement that is engaged in building a new counter culture against America’s aging soixante-huitardes similar to continental ‘Identitarian’ movements.”

Many of these new right thinkers eschew the big tent “Alt-Right” label that the MSM has lumped them under for one reason or another, but all together they comprise a massive samizdat movement of online Dissidenti. Furthermore, the alt-right does not just deal with politics; it is an all-encompassing intellectual movement. There are HBD (human bio-diversity) enthusiasts, male self-improvement advocates, rebellious sub-cultures of 5th gen. meme-warriors as well as Monarchists, Traditionalists, National-Libertarians, Socialist-Nationalists, Identitarians and Russo-philes…

On Russia

In the West, Russia is usually viewed with a mix of foreboding and hysteria. However, the Alt-Right has a more favorable opinion. Their generally russo-philic attitude stems from their view that Russia and Eastern Europe have preserved the best of European cultural values. After the fall of communism, a sort of role-reversal occurred. The west remained free of economic communism, but fell under the spell of “Cultural Marxism.”

On the topic of Cultural Marxism, whole tomes can be written, but suffice it to say, whereas traditional Marxism aims to erase economic inequality, Cultural Marxism aims to eliminate perceived social inequality based on race, gender and sexual orientation. One could say that the West won the Cold War and retained its free-market economic system of Capitalism…and yet there is everywhere apparent a spirit of Cultural Marxism prevalent in the West. .

The late Jonathon Bowden, (a dissident right wing thinker from the UK) articulated a prevailing belief in the Alt-Right in a talk titled, Western Civilization Bites Back.

“The new Eastern Europe is rather really interesting and will have a lot to say about the future of European man in the next century or so. Eastern Europe was preserved by communism from the decadence of the liberalism which has semi-destroyed Western Europe (and points to the west of that)… Communism was a strange doctrine, because it preserved under permafrost many of the characteristic social chapters of what it means to be a European.”

To put it simply, Russia is seen as a beacon of reason and civilization by many on the Alt-Right. Time will tell if their faith in Russia is justified or not. But they, and other similar Dissident Right movements are the only parties that will even hear Russia out.

Generation Trump

Just as Russia is being encircled by NATO forces, and pilloried in the international media, so too have the hyenas in the MSM been hounding the now GOP nominee, Donald Trump.

To put it mildly, the entire edifice of Western civilization is crumbling and it would only be a slight exaggeration at this point to point out that much of the West lives in a post Camp of the Saints scenario. Yet, just as America- shell-shocked and confused- hit Peak-PC, Donald Trump arrived like a savior in the night. His boldness and willingness to openly state Anti-Globalist policies won him the adulation of dispossessed middle-America…and the scorn of the Neo-Trotskyite Intelligentsia. Unsurprisingly, Donald Trump is seen by many on the Alt-Right as the last chance for Western Civilization to save itself from the brink of civilizational collapse.

Most importantly, the rise of Donald Trump heralds the new era of identity politics. As Donald Trump taps into the simmering discontent of the dispossessed white working class of America, he begins to transcend the traditional left/right divide among voters. The real divides are now along the lines of Identity. With him stands Generation Alt-Right. Against him stands the New Internationale.

Perhaps the best example of the merger between globalist interests and the Regressive Left can be seen in the recent #marchforeurope protests. Indoctrinated Millenials, old-school labor voters, and the recently imported Third World have joined in an unholy alliance with The City and EU bureaucrats to protest a popular referendum on the European Union. The New Left- once a champion of liberal values in the West- now demands harsher controls on speech in the name of combating “Hate Speech” and actively promotes greater flows of economic migrants who will undercut the wages of the native working class.

To many of the older generation, much of what I have said may come as a surprise. But the fact remains that the old political positions have gone topsy-turvy, and it all has happened in the relative blink of an eye. As it stands now, the old peace-promoting, anti-imperialist, pro-working class Left has left the stage. We live in a brave new borderless world now- or so we are told by the new cultural commissars. Many are coming to realize that there is no left or right anymore. There are only Globalists and Nationalists, and the young Alt-Right stands at the vanguard of the latter. They are the product of a new generation being forced to rediscover their identity and come to terms with their dispossession.

A generation who spit out the narratives of guilt and self-hate they were fed as children. A generation that intimately understands the raw deal they have been given and that resents a political culture that justifies their economic, and social plight on the grounds of fighting “systematic racism.” For their whole lives, they have been blamed for historical “sins” outside their control. And now they fight over an offense they did not give, against those who were not even alive to be offended. That realization forms their consciousness. Where Samuel Huntington once asked: “Who are we?” – the Alt-Right has picked up the torch and started coming to its own conclusions…

The Turnbull fallacy

Malcolm was of the opinion that, given his own personal estimate that he was more likely to win the coming election, he therefore had a right and a duty to depose a sitting Prime Minister. The only question in his mind, as he articulated his rationale, was to ensure a Coalition victory at the coming election. Values? Political morality? Vision and direction? None were part of his stated objectives, although for the rest of us, his transparently far-to-the-left-of-centre views were his genuine motivation. He would become PM and bring about all of those great centralising ideas that have worked so well everywhere they have been tried. How successful his electoral strategy has been is there for anyone to see.

Which brings me to this posting by LQC three days before the Presidential election in 2012. We don’t vote in Australia for the American president, by that stage the die was certainly almost cast, but as you can see, the biggest flaw in Romney was that he was not going to win:

I have grave misgivings about a Romney presidency. While I am in full agreement with Steve Kates and most Catallaxy readers about the appalling Obama presidency, I fear that Romney is the most protectionist Republican candidate in history. Perhaps even the most protectionist presidential candidate in history. His pronouncements have been exclusively about an insular US, fear of China, and “protecting jobs”. Where is the vision for an open economy? In truth Romney is a died in the wool mercantalist.

A Romney administration promises cuts in Government spending – which I applaud – but probably a less efficient tax system. Most fundamentally, a Romney administration would put up the shutters and move to a ‘self sufficient’ United States. That would be a disaster for the US and a disaster for the world.

Anyone who has read my musings will recognise a pretty conservative and right-wing leaning. But I have a lexicographical preference for free trade and a free market.

I fear that Romney will make the US market less free than he would inherit from Obama. Perhaps the BBC poll that Steve cites [that only 6% of Australians would vote for Romney] is right for the wrong reasons: supporting Obama because he is less bad than the alternative?

From Steve’s perspective it is probably fortunate I don’t get to vote. But can anyone – please – give me one reason to vote for Romney rather than against Obama? In my recent post I wrote

Obama does not deserve a second term

That is true, but does Romney deserve a first term? I suspect not.

If I were voting, it would be for a write-in candidate. But it doesn’t really matter, as I still think Obama will win with around 332 electoral votes against Romney’s 206. When the GOP chose Romney, they voted for an Obama victory.

His standard is whether someone can be elected. And in that same vein he asks me to apologise for traducing his fine reputation based on his certainty that Hillary will win, which at least with Trump is by no means a certainty. As he now writes:

By the way Steve, I would appreciate an apology if Clinton is elected. I’ve said on both occasions that the GOP candidate would never be elected and you keep calling me a fool.

As for the rest of you: I have never said I liked Obama or Clinton. Quite the contrary.

Both Romney and Trump are unelectable. Romney would have made a good president. Trump would be a disgrace and disaster.

It is certainly new to hear from LQC what a good president Romney would have been. And just who might that candidate have been in 2012 who would have won instead? And it is ludicrous to think that Rubio – his choice this time – would not have been crushed by the Clinton machine. Last time, at least, he didn’t say vote for Obama. This time he does say vote for Hillary.

No one has to tell me what a dangerous choice Trump is or that he is less than evens to win given the media’s role in the US. But to prefer Hillary shows you are no conservative and puts you on the left.

Political fools and the American election

obama doom and gloom

I have seen LQC and Sinclair in the same room. In fact, although no one else will here remember, LQC’s nonsensical political views were also on display on Catallaxy during the election in 2012 when he was into a full frontal anti-Romney assault. Given Obama being Obama, of which by then we had already seen four years, and the choices we have now, anti-Romney sounds so utterly beyond idiocy that you would think that anyone who get it that wrong would just shut up.

The problems with Trump has never been in doubt. He is a property developer without a well-developed expertise in many of the political issues of our time. He has a bombastic personality and little relevant historical knowledge (although he is miles ahead of Obama). But having watched him over the past year, there is no doubt that unlike anyone else in the American political establishment, he understands what the issues are and what needs to be fixed. If it turns out he won’t be able to achieve what he says, I will be disappointed, but not sorry that he was my choice since there was no one else on the Republican side who offered to do what he has said he will try to do. And now that we are down to him and Hillary, the choice of Hillary is to choose evil and the almost immediate decay and destruction of the American Republic. Four supreme court picks and an open border naturialisation policy will mean no Republican ever becomes president again. Out past 2020, the nature of the US becomes almost unimaginable.

But Trump has genuine strengths, of which a will to have his own way is going to be extremely useful. He has also run a large organisation, so is in a similar situation to army commanders who have become president. He is not going to be as bad as Woodrow Wilson who was merely an academic and who had run nothing in his life other than a university (OK – he was governor of NJ for about a year before running for president).

You look at that story above. These are the forces that have been let loose because of Obama and Hillary. According to The Daily Mail, Grinning Obama JOKES during statement on Munich carnage as he shifts gears to say he’ll miss daughter Malia when she leaves the nest for college. There are fools everywhere, and there may be just enough of them in the US to make Hillary president. But they are the same kind of fools who made Obama president for the last eight years so there are plenty of them about.

You cannot make an economy grow from the demand side

There is an exceptionally insightful article in The Oz today by Maurice Newman titled not very accurately as: Central banks hell-bent on a currency debauch Lenin would love. This is what I think is the crucial point:

Politicians share responsibility for today’s distorted economy, having recklessly spent tomorrow’s productive capital on consumption.

To a modern macroeconomist, all spending drives demand. To anyone with some kind of appreciation of economic cause and effect, wasting our productive efforts on non-value-adding forms of output will leave us with a barren future that will overtake us sooner than you might like to think. It doesn’t have to come in the form of a recession, although it could, but what is certain is that it will become ever more difficult to maintain our living standards even where they are. Our children are unlikely to live as well as we have done, although they will no doubt have a better class of mobile phone. The point Newman makes about the diversion of current expenditures away from productive investment is the single most depressing fact about out present circumstances, and among the last people to understand what is going on are our Prime Minister and his Treasurer.

Trump acceptance speech

I haven’t had the time to listen but will get to it tonight. His opponents will be the Democrats, of course, but also this: ROUND UP: MEDIA MOCKING OF REPUBLICANS INTENSIFIES…. But whatever happens between now and then, it will be the head-to-head debates between Trump and Clinton that will settle the issue. But let me just link to this, an article by Peter Wales at Quadrant Online, which captures what ought to be known. Here is a quote, but it far from the most important.

Finally, “He’s not a conservative!” Yes, he is. There is not a single Trump policy position that does not fit under the very wide umbrella of freedom-loving, free-market conservatism. It is certainly possible to disagree about some aspect of social policy, or trade, for example. But any position taken in these discussions is a long way from large government socialism. At best, #nevertrump can claim that Trump’s opinions now are not what they were twenty years ago. No intelligent person’s opinions are what they were twenty years ago. Values clarify as one gets older. Practical experience and knowledge of the world is gained. The world changes, problems and issues change, and ways of dealing with them change. There would be much more reason for concern if Trump’s opinions had not changed with changing times.

That there is virtually no public support for Trump across Australia is a sad fact because if not Trump, then Hillary.
